wada sez: This is yet another imprint from Franco Villa, this time doing the exact same continuity-welding stuff for the Marvel comics and Regeneration One. Per a comment by Joe Teanby on deviantART, the art is specifically trying to ape Jose Delbo’s style—see below for his clean lineart. In the republished version, Cyclonus was redrawn as Slugslinger to avoid tampering with continuity.

wada sez: On deviantART, Villa explained the impetus for the strip: “I always felt sorry for Scavenger, reading his bio. What was that Megatron said? Puppetroid?” I have no idea what he’s referring to there. Also per Villa: “it's G1 cartoon Continuity, after "The Rebirth"”. It’s not clear to me why this strip was never republished for The Lost Seasons or Villa’s Generation One imprint. Evidently they had plans for another strip following up on this one: “There is another piece in progress, telling how they ended up here. And they are proto-Duocons, with just one alt mode for now.” I think it’s possible this strip was eventually finished and published as “Black Market” for the Multiverse project, which covered very similar ground and similarly was never shared on the actual The Lost Seasons page. See below for Gamba’s character models.

wada sez: Sideswipe is drawn specifically as his Universe toy, as in All Hail Megatron. Æon Flux is presumably a reference to the franchise of the same name, developed by Transformers storyboard artist Peter Chung.

wada sez: Bugly was the only one of the six 1988 Decepticon Pretenders who was curiously absent from Furman’s early IDW work, so this storyline serves to give him a role in the universe—something John Barber would later do officially in Revolutionaries issue #7. The Protectobots are all drawn according to their Don Figueroa designs from War Within: The Dark Ages.
