Man has shot himself after shooting his fiancee's father and his mother and sister in a life-threatening situation, officials said today.
At approximately 3:05 a.m., Fall River Police received a report from the shooter's friend that he had shot himself and family members at 511 Bank Street, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Mr. Quinn III. Upon arrival, Fall River Police found four gun victims. The shooter was identified as Christopher Jean Baptiste, 25, of 511 Bank Street, the district attorney said. The father of Baptiste's friend Hubert Labasquin, 69, was taken to a Rhode Island hospital, where he also later died. The groom's mother and sister, aged 59 and 25 respectively, were both taken to Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford and are expected to survive. The family of Baptiste's fiancé lived with him and his future wife at his Bank Street flat for several months, according to an investigation by the authorities, when they looked for another place to live. On Tuesday evening, however, Baptiste told her fiancé that he was not happy with the housing situation. Later that evening, Baptiste - while holding a gun - told her fiancé that her family had to leave their residence, officials said. Shortly after, Labasquin got into a fight with Baptiste, during which he was subsequently hit. When Baptiste's friend called the police, Baptiste shot his mother and sister and then himself, officials said.
