キク

菊は、キク科キク属の植物の総称で、秋を代表する花として知られています。原種は野生のノジギクで、様々な園芸品種が作られ、世界中で愛されています。菊の花は、舌状花と呼ばれる細長い花びらと、管状花と呼ばれる筒状の花が集まった独特の形状をしています。花の色は白、黄、赤、紫など多様で、一重咲きや八重咲きなど、咲き方も様々です。菊は観賞用としてだけでなく、食用や薬用としても利用されます。特に食用菊は、苦みが少なく、サラダや天ぷらなどで楽しめます。また、菊は長寿や高潔の象徴とされ、日本文化では菊の紋所が皇室の紋章として用いられています。秋の風物詩として、菊花展や菊人形など、菊を愛でる文化も根付いています。
