Pictured at left are a pair of Converse All Star Chuck Taylor high tops I bought from the shoe store I worked at during my high school years. The shoes I had worn to work that fateful day were rubbing blisters into the skin on my Achilles' tendon, and these were the cheapest thing we sold, priced at $30 in that long ago time of 1999. Since that day, these shoes have tread the bottom of the American River, have sauntered through the Colosseum and Palatine Hill. They've been to London and Paris, have splashed through puddles in Seattle, have trod the Appian Road. There isn't much left of them, but going on sixteen years later, I can only reflect and say: My God, what a great pair of shoes. Pictured at right are a pair of same, given to me by my wife as a birthday gift in 2013. These also have seen Seattle, though their first adventure was in San Francisco. Along with the picture of the Ray Ban Wayfarers I posted earlier, I am indeed very excited to see where these shoes will take me in the coming year. (The backdrop for these photos is my Pierre Cardin leather motorcycle jacket, which I have also had for nearly sixteen years. Also, I have hash tagged every city I can remember where the pair at left have been.) Happy New Years! J. Schiek
