Late Night Memorials
“You okay?” Ciáran asked as he came into the room. He leaned into the doorframe, his brow knit with concern. “You seemed… spooked earlier,” he finished when Clarissa turned to face him.
“I’m fine,” she mumbled, pulling a tunic over her head. She sighed as she pushed her arms through the sleeves. “I just… you reminded me of someone. Someone I’ve lost.” She frowned. “Why are we doing this? Why? Why are you pretending to care? Why am I pretending this is what I want? It’s not what you want either… not really. Why are we forcing it?” Clarissa huffed, defeated.
She knew exactly why, but she wanted to hear him say it. They’d been left in this war torn world utterly alone. And loneliness was a near unbearable thing. It was easy. Pretending. To want him. To be happy. It was easy. Until it wasn’t.
But would it be easier to face the truth?
“I think we both know why,” he finally said after he pushed himself up off the door to stand straight. To face her with a level eye, a seriousness he pretended to be above.
“Because it’s supposed to be easier. Everyone got their happy endings and it is supposed to be easier to pretend that we’ve also found ours. But I see it in your eyes when you look at me. When you pretend to love me… that blank… nothing. A darkness that haunts you. You’ve lost the same as me, Ciáran,” she said, that same pain she spoke of showed in her eyes. A glimmer of unshed tears. The emptiness of a soul without hope. “It’s supposed to be easier. But it’s not. Why must we pretend that we’re okay? We’ve lost everything.”
“Ciáran, we owe them nothing.”
Ciáran: I have the sharpest memory! Name one time I’ve forgotten something.
Dragon: You left me in the Walmart parking lot like three weeks ago.
Ciáran: I did that on purpose, try again.
Ciáran was married? What was his wife like? How did she die?
He was married! He met his wife soon after his father brought him to court—he was raised by his mother before his father decided it was time for him to face his responsibilities to the crown—she was a scullery maid. Half-fae, and so very different from the cruel and callous people he was used to meeting at court. Aislin later reminds him a good deal of her; which causes her to be one of the few people he opens up his now cold and closed off heart to. They married, against his fathers wishes but he allowed the union on the grounds that Ciáran would accept his role as crown prince wholeheartedly, a few years after meeting.
His father had her killed a few months later, they were expecting a child. And Ciáran blames himself for not being able to protect them. He was never good with magic, never strong enough. And the soldiers that came for his family were too strong. Too powerful. He will never be able to forget watching the life fade from her eyes, as he held his dying wife in arms.
10 for the grumpy boi and Dragon
Ngl I read this as ‘the grumpy boi Dragon’ at first and I was kinda confused. BUT! Dragon and Ciáran Headcannons coming right up
10: Fears/phobias
dragon
Don’t know if you can really consider this a fear, but they are very superstitious.
Won’t perform magic during a storm
Wary of certain numbers
And searches for omens in anything and everything
Is also scared of dogs. And they’re not really sure why, but even the smallest of them set them on edge, and put them on high alert.
Terrified of hieghts as well. So much so that they refuse to ride horses, choosing instead to walk everywhere. Makes quite the inconvenience for our ragtag bunch of rebels when they set off to try and save Serena.
Also has a recurring dream of getting kidnapped and held hostage, so lives in constant fear of that actually happening. Dreams being a *sign* and all
ciáran
The fear of being known™️
And also of losing the people he cared about (so he tries really hard not to care about anyone)
being alone in Mirrior forest at night
Bard monk and rogue for Tyde and Ciáran please!
Bard: Can your character recall a time that music has had a special power over them? What was this song, where did they hear it, and did it affect them positively, negatively, or neutrally?
Tyde - Hmm, not really? Aside from the occasional war ballad or drinking song, music has never really been a part of his life. And those he’d only sing or hum along with because everyone else was.
Ciáran: There’s been one time in his life that music has ever really affected him, and that was at his wife’s funeral. The dirge that was sung during her Recollection. He refuses to attend any more funerals—except for one, which he only makes an exception for because he feels responsible for the death—so that he doesn’t have to chance hearing it again.
Monk: What natural physical abilities does your character possess? Can they perform acrobatic stunts, can they effectively punch an opponent, or can they do nothing but cower in fear when danger comes?
Tyde - No acrobatics for him, though he is a skilled fighter from his years spent in the King’s service before being convicted and tried for treason. He’s always been good with a sword, and an excellent rider. Doesn’t prefer hand to hand, but could effectively punch someone if he needed to.
Ciáran - Naturally graceful and light on his feet, mostly due to his fae heritage. He’s not the best of fighters, by fae standards. But can easily best most humans. He’s always fought a bit like a dancer, so acrobatic stunts are definitely not out of the question. Wouldn’t be the most effective with a punch.
Rogue: What does your character hide from - the law enforcement, their friends, their family, themselves, their secrets, etc.?
Tyde - Law enforcement, I guess mostly. Tyde’s an open person, with zero regrets. So there’s no past or secrets to run from. And he’s on good terms with his family. But as a rebel, he does spend a good deal of time hiding from the King’s guard.
Ciáran - Hides from his past, he doesn’t open up about what’s happened to him. And he hides from his family; namely his father. And his responsibility to the crown. He’s to take over his fathers throne one day, and feels he’s fated to follow in his fathers and his people’s same cruel footsteps, and would rather not have anything to do with that.
Character Introduction - Side(ish)
Name: Ciáran Aiden Bléine
Nicknames:
Age: 168
Birthday: December 16th
Appearance: Wild messy silver hair that he dyes black, silver eyes, and tanned skin. He’s tall and slender, though strong—because of his heritage—he doesn’t appear it. He dresses mostly in fine lavishly embroidered clothing. And he’s a warrior by birth but he prefers to outwit someone then to draw a sword.
Family: He lives with his mother and his aunt, in the Mirrior Forrest banished from both the seelie and unseelie courts.
Hometown:
Special Abilities: His words are his weapon, and he’s always quick to come up with an insult. While he does possess some magical ability he isn’t very strong, and he knows more about the technical aspects of magic then actually casting spells and using them.
Quote: “Wait, you don’t actually expect me to help them?”

“It’s all nonsense,” I shout a little louder than I mean to. “Utter nonsense.”
“Most things are,” a voice cuts in from behind me.
I spin around to find Ciáran. The silver embroidered threads of his tunic glitter in the starlight. I can’t see his face because it’s cast in shadow but there’s no mistaking him.
“What’s confusing you?” He tilts his head to the side, and I can see his teeth gleaming in a grin.
“Everything,” I mutter. “Nothing. I don’t know.”
“So you’re confused about what you’re confused about,” he says. “Spent too much time with us faeries already have you?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Who’s to say?” He shrugs.
I sigh. “If you’re not going to say anything useful, then leave me alone.”
“It’s not me who decides if what I say is useful or not.”
