Translations 3/15 - 26th May

If nobody minds I’m just gonna reel off a list of thoughts, feelings and relevant recollections from every performance. A dear diary if you will.

I appear to have got Colin surrounded. I started on the furthest right-side on opening night and was dead centre the second and then to the furthest left-side tonight. I haven’t done that on purpose Colin. You need not fear that I’m circling you or anything. 

(I like to think that Colin and I are playing a little game called Where’s Rebecca. He may not actually be playing but the idea is I sit in various places and he has to look for me. He may or may not see me. I may or may not be there.)

I’m trying to be vague but these may contain spoilers. Don’t hate on me. Don’t read. If you even managed to make it this far that is.

So what have I noticed/seen change so far? 

Owen didn’t intervene with Maire’s map-drawing this time. 

I am beginning to query Maire’s laughing at Doalty’s story when ten seconds later she’s against him on the subject.

I am also growing ever-tired of the, let’s be honest, rather daft prolonged silence at the mention of the infamous Donnelly twins. Because apparently the audience is so stupid that we need to sit here and think about how important these notorious brothers might be for ten minutes! TWICE! It didn’t work the first time and it’s just not getting better with age. Don’t even get me started on the whistling. WTF is that about??!?!?!?!?!?!?

George looks like Han Solo in the second half. I wanted Chewie to rock up with the Millennium Falcon. (Maybe that’s what happened to George?) 

That step on stage-left is dangerous. There’s a great big gap and I’m terrified Sarah might fall over.

I’m pretty sure someone in the orchestra is knitting! She should know that it can be very distracting if you’re in the Olivier Circle.

George never mimics the hen movement anymore. That was funny. He should bring that back.

Tonight I was in the best seat to see that total look of heartbreak on Hugh’s face when Owen totally just dissed their language. You can actually see him drain of pride and joy... it’s the work of the master... Ciaran Hinds you legend!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I was just in a better position to notice it this time but there’s some very happy hands between Owen and Bridget at times. I’m not sure that’s necessary. Owen, personal space yeah.

Sarah’s reluctance to let Manus go gets me every time. So devastating. 

I think that’s about all I got that may or may not be of interest to anyone. I appear to be quite bitchy about this play this evening but maybe that’s just because the damn thunderstorm ruined my lovely green shoes. 

Don’t say my total adoration of Colin Morgan hinders my ability to criticise.

PS. Colin was amazing all three times. Obviously.
