i haven’t posted anything for a good while bc life has been lifeing stressfully so. here’s an idea i’ve stewed on for a good while and finally drew.
mini yapfest about charcoal having a kid named Cinder below the cut:
i feel like charcoal having had a kid in the past is an interesting thing to work about and theorize around.
Their outfit is made from one of Charcoal’s old coats and such, as is their plushie. Like Charcoal, they too can communicate and see spirits, often taking their time to play with them and have tea parties with them. They’re also a peppered moth like Charcoal is, im scrapping the whole caterpillar thing bc it’s just more confusing to figure out.
Anyway. living in the catacombs is difficult. supplies are scarce when there are supplies and rations. Charcoal makes sure to put in all his effort to care for them and do everything he can for them but it’s not enough. A particularly difficult winter threatens his child’s life with an illness he has no idea how to help with, and that leads to the quick and untimely death of his young child.
I’d like to think that Charcoal and his ancestors don’t turn into spirits because their duty as tomb keepers fulfills them of their moral and earthly duties- so once they’re gone theyre gone.
That’s not to say that Charcoal forgets. He never has - in fact he’s more of an archivist of some of the spirits memories when he can. But this kind of wrecks him for a while. He doesn’t really mention it ever to Lily or Pastry because he just doesn’t think it’s something he aught to bring up at the moment. He doesn’t blame himself (not anymore at least), and tries to push it to the back of his mind while they venture through to Silent Salt.
anyway i do want to draw them more often. they’ve been in the back of my mind for so so long and i forgot to make a post about it
