Your Homicidols Weekender #354
It’s been another busy week in Idol, but it’s about to get busier! This weekender is, once again, put together by trustee procrastinator Papermaiden, because our overlord Daemon is busy doing what he should do, having fun with Tokyo Psychopath this weekend! On that note, if you are at Saboten Con, come meet us (him)! He is giving the Killer Side of Idol panel on Saturday, September 2 at 11:30. A…

A Father and a Widow
“I’m so sorry.” “Stop apologizing- just tell me what’s going on.” Cress bit the inside of her lip, as she stared at Kai’s broken face. His eyebrows knit together in the speculating way she was so familiar with, and she could already picture how they would transform to heartbroken in a matter of seconds. She could already see his calculating eyes loosing their fierceness, and melting into pain. She wished it wasn’t her. She wished ANYONE else could have been there to hear Cinder’s request. Thorne, maybe. He was brave. Or scarlet- she was strong. Wolf even, for he was compassionate. But no, it had to be Cress who held Cinder’s body in her arms. It had to be Cress who cried over her limp form, the life falling away from her. She felt her palms grow sweaty as she glanced anywhere but Kai’s face. He had had a stressful day already, what with four conferences with the rest of the earthen Union, all asking and complaining and wondering by God WHEN will they receive Luna’s tradable goods?! Kai and Cinder had decided it would be best for her to stay on Luna in her fragile condition, and Kai would meet her there in 12 short hours. Surely, she could wait for 12 hours. Cress took a deep breath, thinking of how Cinder only made it for 7 of those. “Cress… You can tell me. Is it Cinder? Did she- I mean, am I too late?” Cress but her lip, staring at the floor, as tears began to prick her eyes. AGAIN. “To an extent.” Kai sighed And grabbed her arms, “Cress. Talk to me, please. Is my wife okay?” Cress looked up into his pleading eyes, and grasped his hand. She noticed with a sigh, that his palms were sweating too. He was nervous. “Kai- she’s… She…” A tear fell, and Cress let go of his hand. “She didn’t make it through the night.” She watched in horror as Registration slowly took Kai over, and he began to gradually fall backwards, until he collided violently with the table behind him. “I… She…” He cleared his throat, but it did nothing to sever the tears from falling as he choked out, “did the… Did she… Did she say anything?” Cress smiled, and sat beside him, taking his hand once more, “she said she loved you so much. She said she knows you’ll make a wonderful father, even without her with you. And that- she said it’s a girl, Kai.” Cress watched with satisfaction as Kai’s face momentarily brightened, “I have a daughter?” Cress simply nodded, and he took a deep breath, pulling her small frame against his. “Thank you.” They embraced for many moments, and Cress knew his strength was falsified- something he had been taught since childhood- to hide the sadness behind strength. “Can I see her?” He asked quietly, and Cress nodded, standing, and leading him to the spaceship she had emerged from, where a lunar guard kept watch over a small crib, Thorne standing beside a larger, darker, and covered box, which held the late queen. Kai winced when he saw the coffin, tears threatening again. But then Thorne was there, picking up the small newborn child, and showing her to Kai. His sorrow melted into love, as he took the child in his arms. She giggled lightly, and a tear fell from his eyes. “She looks like Cinder.” He laughed, as the baby grabbed hold of one of his fingers, “hello there. Hello… Ella. My beautiful girl, Ella.” Cress took Thorne’s hand, as they watched Kai take his daughter over to the dark coffin, and whispered something too quiet for Cress and Thorne to make out, but Cress knew it was for only the family to hear. She leaned against Thorne and held her own stomach, “I’m going to miss her so much.” Thorne nodded in agreement, and kissed Cress’s head. He spun her gently to face him, and looked her deeply in the eyes. He gently placed his own hand above Cress’s which rested on her belly, and whispered, “if our child is a girl.. I’d like to suggest a name…” Cress nodded, waiting for him to continue, but his eyes were on Kai and the coffin as he said,
“I’d like to name her Cinder.”
