A circus came to our town over the weekend and the clever mamma that I am, I managed to procure several free tickets. 🌟 Seeing as my kids have had to adjust to a lot lately, with the No Spend Year. I decided that it would be a nice way to calm, recent choppy waters. 🌟 However, before we left, I kindly set expectations by telling the dears that we would not be buying any treats at the circus, as it was all about enjoying the experience of the amazing circus performers, watching snakes, trapeze artists and acrobats attempting death-defying feats just for our entertainment. 🌟 They agreed. Stunned, I repeated myself to ensure that they have been listening the first time around. However, according to them, they were. I was chuffed, they were finally starting to come to adjust to this new way of thinking. 🌟 As we arrived, there was a candy floss and popcorn stand. Within seconds I was inundated by requests for both items by both children. I gently reminded them of the agreement that we had made before we left. They were aghast that this agreement included popcorn AND candyfloss! 🌟 Again, I reiterated that we were indeed still doing ‘The Year of Less But Better’ and that we were here to enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of the circus and not to spend money unnecessarily. Anyway, whether they were chewing on sticky candy floss or not should have no bearing whatsoever on their level of enjoyment. 🌟 Immediately, I was informed that popcorn AND candy floss were critical to the enjoyment of the event and by not allowing them to part-take in said treats, I was not only wantonly ruining their afternoon but I was also cruelly stunting their growth by actively starving them. 🌟 One even threatened to ask if the circus needed additional staff, as surely they would be treated better under the stewardship of anyone else except me. 🌟 I almost called her bluff on that one. I really think that there should be wiggle room with those child labour laws. 🌟 Am I doing this parenting thing wrong ?! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 #circus #circusinspiration #circustickets #futurethinking #dayout #treat #kidsdayout #changeisgood #cantwin #frugalwife #frugalliving #spend #savemore #parenting (at Ireland (country)) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsoOv-ql3Nf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1250uk6t6ilkp
