In Times of Need {CL & Kyuhyun}
There were few feelings in her world that could match up to this. LEaving the security of the walls was exciting, scary, empowering, dreadful and liberating all at the same time. More than anything, though, it was an escape. Daily life in Zone X could be so suffocating at times. Being a Firefly wasn't all smiles and grand schemes all the time either. Sometimes CL just wanted to scream at everyone to fuck off and be quiet. At times like those she preferred the silence of the outer world. Throughout her childhood she had heard her father talk about the deathly silence of the cities beyond the walls of the quarantine zones. He had said that without the constant hum of a once technologically powered society their Earth had gone quiet. She couldn't quite grasp the meaning of those words until she left the quarantine zone. Her first time outside the walls had been an experience she'll never forget. There had been nothing. No movement, no sounds, no sign of life.
This time around, it had been no different. As soon as she emerged from under the floorboards of a rundown cafe just a few meters outside the quarantine zone walls the silence struck her. She could hear the wind, feel the heavy dust in the air, even perceived the small family of mice living out their lives in one of the cafe's rotting cabinets. "Time to get dirty." She grabbed her bag from the whole she had just climbed up from then covered it. It was another day in the job. She hopped she could get some lead today so that she could get started on her new batch of AK47 bullets. She had been running out of those pretty quickly these days.
She knew just the place she wanted to head out to that day, too. She had been there once before as she had stumbled into it by accident. The spot wasn't too far. About 30 minutes down what had once been a main road. At the point where the road would've converged with the highway lay something akin to a car graveyard. Probably the lot of cars that people had left behind in favor of escaping on foot. Once she had made sure she had everything she needed, her pistols well strapped to her hips and her bat secured to her backpack CL was heading out the door at a brisk pace.
About 45 minutes, and a few stops later she finally made it. "Looks like there are about a few dozen cars here." She went up to the first batch then brought her backpack down from her shoulders. Even though the weather was becoming milder CL was already covered in sweat which she swept away from her forehead as she brought some tools out of her bag. "Ok wheel weights, come to Mama." She dove under the first car to get to work.
"Oh gosh...." An hour later CL had managed to gather a good amount of the wheel weights. She was coming up from under one of the cars when the door on the car suddenly came unhinged and fell off. "Shit!!" She had cut one of her fingers accidentally as a piece of metal came lose from the door. It didn't look too deep but it stung like a motherfucker. "Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" She immediately sucked on the wound and sprinkled some of the water she had brought over it. "Ouch..." She was trying to stop the bleeding when suddenly she heard it. "Oh no."
There were groans and moans coming from somewhere under the highway ramp. CL immediately grabbed her bag, now heavy with the lead wheel weights. She set her right hand over one of her guns and crouched behind the car. She looked to her right. The noise of the car door probably attracted them. She scoped the area until she was sure there were no infected within range. When she saw none, she dashed in the direction she had come from. Suddenly a group of three runners dashed at her from behind one of the highway ramp pillars. She managed to dodge them until she could hold up one of her pistols, shooting two of them in the head. She missed the third who dashed after her again. She kicked him in the gut then rammed the butt of her pistol against his temple. Once the infected was staggering she shot him in the head too. "Take that!!! Fuck!" It had been a close call. Too close... What was that? It wasn't over. A group of five runners suddenly ran out from a building just to her left. Then she heard it. Those annoying clicks. Fuck! FUCK! She aimed to start shooting when she noticed another group of runners coming from the right. Then two clickers appeared from behind her. She was surrounded.
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck!!!
It couldn't end like this. It just couldn't! Lee Chaerin was not about to fall like this. She braced herself and reached for her bat, quickly holstering her pistol. "Mom, Dad... Watch over me ok?" She sent a bit of a prayer as the runners closed in.
