Another engine from the Archives, the Chester and HolyHead class 11!
Perhaps no other railway had a closer relationship with the C&HR than the Denbigh and Wrexham Railway. Aside from sharing a Station, both turned to May Traction Works for the majority of their locomotive designs. Many designs and common parts were shared between the two rail lines. When the Denbigh and Wrexham wanted a new medium mixed traffic engine, they combined their D11 type frames with the C&HR type 5 boiler (ROD 2-8-0) to create the D13. After testing, the DWR would instead decide to go with a different design, but offered the prototype to the C&HR. The C&HR accepted the Prototype and renumbered her to be the Class 11. They quickly found a role for her pulling suburban trains, and ordered more members of the class from May Traction Works.
