Ai Weiwei
Wow. Ai Weiwei is a substantially impactful artist who really does open up a conversation and leave it open, just like the cat and doors. I am impressed and inspired by the fearlessness that Ai approaches his work with, and that he is simultaneously an activist and artist at once. I am also impressed that his activism is not the only thing that makes his work attractive. It is clear that Ai’s intention is to shock his audience and make them think, such as dropping the urn. I find it interesting that he does not make his own art as well, but has others bring his vision to life. Ai is unconventional - but his artwork is effective, and while that may mean being offensive, it’s also important. Below are some of his artwork that elicited a strong emotion from me - either good or bad.
