Spells and rituals often leave some sort of residue behind.
This can include candle stubs, incense ash, bits of paper, dried petals, and so on. Most of the time that gets cleaned up during or after an individual spell, however, sometimes magick happens in haste and not everything gets picked up.
Here is a ceremony for clearing away the remnants of spells left behind, to clear away old energy and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to do more.
First take everything off your altar.
Empty and wash the incense burner, empty and clean the candleholders, and polish the athame. Wash the ritual bowls, chalice, and stone or pentacle. Painted icons or other delicate items can simply be dusted or just refreshed with a cleansing.
Clean the top of your altar with whatever suits it best, furniture polish, glass cleaner, or even just a wet rag. Now would also be the time to refresh your supply of incense, charcoal, candles, and other consumables. Check that the match-box or lighter is full.
When you're ready, place your cleaned altar tools back into their places.
As a final cleanse of energy, say :
All that has gone before is over and done.
What lies ahead is new and clean.
So mote it be.
