Learnings From My Time As A Full Time Entrepreneur
I was asked to speak at the women2 NYCMeetup and discuss my experience creating as an entrepreneur- what I learned and advice I’d give to individuals considering launching a startup. I thought I’d share my top 3:
1) Cash is king - Raise more than you think you need, spend less than you want to
Having more doesn’t mean you should spend more, it just means you have more time to focus all your energy on what you set out to build versus having to dedicate a significant portion of your time fundraising.
2) Plan ahead - everything will take 2-3 times as long as you think it will
Entrepreneurs are by nature optimistic, they need to be to leave a secure job and give up a salary to build their business. It is critical to balance optimism with realism. No matter how efficient you are, what you have not become as an entrepreneur is a fortune teller. Be prepared to learn, adapt and pivot - that is the key to success.
3) Ask for help - your support network is crucial as you experience the highest highs and lowest lows
Surround yourself with supportive family and friends who will be your cheerleaders, mentors that will provide you guidance and entrepreneurs who have and are living the same experiences you are. You are not alone unless you choose to be.
