Yall know I love you all dearly and I get you’re upset about the impending Tumblr update but (and I say this with much love) I do not believe a boycott or lights out protest (as much as they are good ideas) alone will have much effect in the grand scheme of things
I found these two tumblr users in a comment chain on the update post:
If you would like to do a protest, by all means go ahead. But please don’t ONLY do a protest. I’ve noticed tumblr definitely partakes in fan service and with that being said there are hopes that enough complaints and critiques from users will aid in the abolishment of the update.
While we as the users of tumblr are a unit in a sense, we are not a unit. We are people on the internet, not comrades in war under the command of a general (as fun as being “revolutionaries” would be). I advise people to keep a level head as the situation unfolds and to not get too caught up in the moment or get their hopes up for the sake of everyone’s mental health.
Additionally to all of this please do not harass people who don’t send in forms or participate in a protest. As of 2025 there was over 100 million estimated tumblr users. Not everyone on this site will have the same opinions as you. Or even if they do, they may be conflict averse. Harassment and doxxing is not cool and just gets everyone in a world of trouble.
So with all this being said, please take care of yourselves, participate in a protest or fill out a form if you’d like and remember that tumblr is just a website and it’s not worth harming yourself over.
