Thanks so much for answering my questions about Faenil!! I enjoy reading about them; like they’re such a compelling and morally thought provoking character and the idea of a whole comic about them has me so stoked! :)
I have some follow up questions about them if/when you have time/the inclination to answer:
• Is there anything they actively miss about living in Summerset/Cloudrest? And by comparison do they like living in Skyrim?
• Cloudrest is an cool city; is there a particular reason you chose that place for their origin?
• Did Faenil consider other career options aside from Doctor?
• Was there a particular moment that made them want to cross the line into a life of dubious crime (the organ harvesting business)? And do they have any regrets about getting involved in that?
• Also: how tall do you headcanon Altmer to be on average?
(Sorry for anon, I am shy to ask/follow ((I have OCD)) - BUT I would for sure like to support your comic even before it is saleable if you make a patreon/smth for it/your work)
Thanks for your time!!
This was such a nice ask to receive I just had to keep it in my inbox for a while to really savor it! I'm glad to know that among the horrors people are still genuinely curious about Faenil and want to see more (OCD gang but I never seem to understand people actually appreciate my stuff, because "it can't be THAT good") There's also a lot of questions to answer here so I'll try to make a little speedrun:
[1] Faenil would go back to Summerset if it was at all possible, even if life over there objectively sucks way more. They don't just hate the cold but this is like setting a lifelong prisoner loose and expecting them to know how to live in the real world. [2] I mostly just chose Cloudrest as the point of origin because it was cool, I mean who doesn't love gryphons, but there's also the Faculty of Chirurgeons where I'd imagine Faenil returned to study at a few times. Faenil lived in Alinor most of their life tho. [3] Faenil's dad was some Sapiarch that really wanted the weird child to become his apprentice in some kind of Daedra studies, that's why Faenil is so skilled in conjuration too. Fortunately this wasn't their passion and they went to study restoration instead, but it took some convincing. [4] I don't think there was a particular moment other than that the opportunity for crime just rose at some point and it ended up being lucrative. Faenil was always fueled by spite from flesh magic being mostly discouraged, and they always had this complex around getting away with things others wouldn't. There was also the skooma... Of course they regret it later. [5] I headcanon altmer around 240cm tall on average, 210cm at the shortest and 270cm at the tallest. Faenil is at 280cm, which is very unacceptable. I don't know what this is in burger measurements, but I'd say at least four washing machines tall.
I'm glad you are interested in the comic BTW. This started out as a "what if the dragonborn was straight up awful" idea until I realized there's a lot to unpack there and could work for my first webcomic project before I move on to make my original stuff. And BTW I will not make a single penny out of it since it's fanfiction and I consider it a good thing, I'd rather not think about a market with this one. It will be completely free for anyone to read.
With that being said, it takes some time to plan out, since the game is not all that translatable to the format, I'm rewriting a lot of quests.
I did two trials in eso yesterday for the first time in years (via the party finder).
Went really well :3.
I remember when I first did trials I was so nervous that my hands would go numb half way through haha (I think being a healer in ffxiv has beaten the anxiety out of me).
But yeah, it was great and I kinda want to do more now.
