BIG WIN FOR "HIKARU" LOVERS. He's gonna be alright.
I gotta say the very specific hand gesture in the manga made me do a metaphorical comical spit-take. I feel like the anime version did not capture how goofily suggestive this exact panel is.
Every time I watch a new episode of TSHD with my girlfriend she calls the opening the "Skeleton rave" (bc it reminds her of this)
Anyone else sad that this is how Yoshiki will remember Hikaru's potential reaction to his feelings towards him? "Gross".
That's so unfortunate. Hikaru was just repressing things and pushing Yoshiki away because he was scared of the Indou's curse. He made Yoshiki feel awful in the process.
Even if Hikaru had been straight (which I don't believe, I think he's bi), he would have never been truly an asshole about Yoshiki's feelings if Yoshiki had confessed. He cared about him way too much.
I hope Yoshiki gets to understand that at some point in the manga.
The thing about TSHD and normalcy is that, literally nobody we ever meet is normal. The villagers strive for a facade of normalcy and uphold it as a standard, but everyone in Kibutachi is weird in some way.
TSHD is not saying "Yoshiki and 'Hikaru' are weird and everyone else is normal therefore they don't fit in." It's saying that everyone is weird to some degree, but most people are in denial about it. "Normalcy" is a dangerous belief that will only hurt you and everyone around you.
We have Yoshiki and Hikaru's families with their broken dynamics and hidden rituals. The older people in town that have a literal secret group to talk about rituals and entities. Rie and Asako with their supernatural powers, Maki with his strange brother, his old family shrine and being chased by ghosts.
Even random villagers we meet are weird, and those who are supposed to be upholding normalcy the most are depicted as strange, aggressive and unnerving.
Honestly the most normal character so far has been Yuuki, and even she doesn't fit the societal standards of femininity that would make her "normal".
