UNIT X Evaluation

For my Unit X project we had a choice to choose which path we wanted to go down. We had a choice from either to do a placement and professional work or to choose the subjects that was given in Moodle.

I had decided to choose placement for my Unit X project. The reason for my choice was due to the fact that i thought it would look good on my cv. This will show that i have done professional work outside of university. I wanted to look for a placement that either did web design/development work or app design work. My journey for a placement began. I looked a different websites, i searched around my area, and i spoke to my employer who may know someone within the Currys/PC World business that do Web design work or app design work. Unfortunately the places i had applied to wanted a graduate student.

This Journey looking for a placement was getting tough as majority of the companies were looking for graduate students. I did receive a call back from an agency which was near by me they wanted images of my work and a small description of what i wanted to do. I received a call back again but unfortunately all the summer project places where taken.

I then spoke to my tutor Peter Woodbridge who suggested i should ask maybe a family member who has a business that may want a website doing. I had finally got a answer back from a family member that wanted a website doing for there kitchen business. This was good for me as it was my brothers and fathers business. They needed a website that would help them boost there business forward. As they already use other social media like Facebook and twitter that was a good starting point.

I then proceeded to create the website they needed. I spoke about what type of website they wanted, what style they wanted to show and what they wanted within the website. They really liked the outcome of the website and they would like to use this for there business website.

Overall i really liked this Unit X project. This project has helped me to built up my confidence to go out there and produce websites for other clients. If i was to do this project again i would defiantly put a lot more effort and try find a placement with a different company who specialise in creating websites. This was a learning curve for me and i really appreciate the honour of allowing me to create a website for a business which they really enjoy.

I have added a link of the finalised website. It is live but in order for me to publish this on to the website i had to pay for 6 months £22.99 for it to work.

I decided to pay for the publishing of the website as i needed this to be live for my final assessment.

I would recommend using a computer to view this as it works a lot better than using a tablet or a smart phone.

i had forgotten to post this earlier in the stage of my website building. This is the first step i went to producing the website. Here i have created a small mind map of what i would want on the website and a story board of how it will show once it is completed.

I like the idea i have gone down and i think i will proceed by using that a get started on the website.

I created a short clip to show the different background themes you can choose from.

As you can see in the clip i clicked on business because it reflected the path i am going down to produce the kitchen website.

This website i would highly recommend using to create a website.

Here i have shown how i have edited the title of the website.

The step i could not do using my iPhone or my iPad. I used my computer to do an extra editing for the website.

Once i managed to figure out what style font i wanted, size, colour, weather if i wanted a shadow placed within the text or the glow.

After i had my chosen font style i confirmed my selection and previewed this as if it was displayed on the website.

From left is the original images on the right are the images which i made adjustments to.

Each of these images i used Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast, and exposure tool to create a better outcome of the photographs.

The image one the left is the original picture i had taken to use for the website. The image on the right is the adjusted image which i had produced using photoshop tools.

I uploaded my image in photoshop, using the tools already provided i then went on to change the contrast of the image. Using the Hue/Saturation tool this will adjust the hue, saturation and the lightness of the image.

I then went on to the Brightness/Contrast tool to adjust the image. This lets you make simple adjustments different tonal range of an image. I adjusted this by moving the brightness slider to the left to decrease and slightly darken the image which also expands on the shadows.

Here is a little step by step images which shows in small detail how i produced the website on my apple phone.

So as you can see once you have downloaded the app, once the app is opened your then welcomed to a page which gets you started. You would need to sign up to access this app. As i have already done so i then went on to choosing a theme. I went straight on to the business theme pages which i then selected the one i wanted. Once i made my final description on the background theme i then proceeded on to editing the site. It was slightly tricky at the beginning but once you get a bit of practice of it, it makes it easier for yourself to crack on.

Once i had my theme, my site page i then added a description of what i believed made this company. Once i had my description down i wanted to get a bit of feedback from the owner. He said it sounds good just crack on to the next stage show me what you have done.

I then went on to adding images on to the home page. Baring in mind the navigation buttons are already added on here. This made is a lot easier for me to control. Once i had my images loaded and went on to complete the rest of the website. I needed some information on the contacts. Once i had all the information i needed for that i then played around with the title of the website using different style of font.

I realised using my phone or the tablet i am limited to do the website building. I went on to my mac computer which was a lot easier. I had the tools i need to go one step further by changing the font style. The title of the page is the main focus part. I needed to get this right.
