After the launch of Phonebloks, in September of 2013, we got a lot of emails, Facebook messages and tweets containing fantastic ideas, great feedback and smart suggestions on how to improve and expand our concept.
We quickly decided that we wanted all these voices to be heard and for that we needed a place, a community, where people could come together and push the project forward. We thought, and still think that if we all work as a collective, we can achieve fenomenal things.
As it turned out, building an online community from scratch takes a lot of time, effort and knowhow. Something we at Phonebloks did not have.
Lucky for us, one of the emails received was from CMNTY, a company that specializes in building online communities. They said that they would love to help out, just because they support Phonebloks!
In no time at all they provided us with a platform and community.phonebloks.com was born.
We’ve been using our CMNTY platform for almost two years, having our community grow to over 26 000 members while at the same time seeing some amazing things come out of it. We’ve seen cool concepts for modular mobile phones, we’ve hosted a whole series of challenges helping Sennheiser develop audio-blok prototypes and we’ve found out what kind of mobile phones people use. Just to name a few of many, many things.
We’ve had a great time working with all the lovely functions of this platform and would like to extend our most sincere, collective and modular THANK YOU! to everyone at CMNTY for all your efforts in helping spreading Phonebloks.
For us, however, it’s time to move on.
During the time that we’ve worked with our community we’ve learned so much about it and the people in it. We’ve realized that we don’t solely have to work towards reducing e-waste. Our community has a mindset of trying to make the world better by making things, together. Through that, we want to tackle other issues as well.
To aid this, we thought the best idea would be to create a new, big community where anything and everything making the world better, together, can be discussed, shared and developed. The community itself will be developed completely in Wordpress. We know, this is not the usual choice for a community. However we love that people from all over the world are working with this software. This makes it easier for everyone to help out customizing and upgrading our community.
We’ve been working on this for a while now, and we hope you like it.
