Today, discover the Gameplay of A Guy and his Hero through some “high quality” gif (hard to fit in the size limit). Hopefully you’ll give it a try in VR pretty soon and you will understand what it feels like to meet your hero in person ! :)

A preview of the motion capture session we did yesterday at the ENJMIN with the dancer Natasha Aubey C.. We’ve captured a lot of movements for our character, now we can’t wait to see it in the game!

Long story, alright, but a story about you and a hero
In a Guy and his Hero, you play as a god-like entity, or more exactly as a “good fortune” in order to help a hero in his quest. Following the hero from above, you can open him a path, or look at him trying on his own without interfering. His journey will lead him through different levels, each of them consisting of a unique board having its own visual and sound identity. The game reminds of board games or even the childish figurine games you could imagine when you were younger, except that this is real thanks to Virtual Reality from the HTC Vive headset. The experience lies somewhere between the adventure, puzzle and god-game style. It is designed to be understood and mastered in ten minutes by a casual player, who may not have tried the HTC Vive experience before. Controls are intuitive and the different contextual actions are balanced between fun, challenge and accessibilty.
Using the HTC Vive remotes as your own hands, you can easily open roofs, handle objets or unfold rooms as if buildings were doll houses. These manipulations are at the core of an instinctive gameplay based on actions you would do in the real world. In order to avoid motion sickness and to make the board easier to approach, we designed an innovative way to move around it without teleporting called rectangular gain. It is easy to apprehend and it works even if your play area is smaller than the board.
As explained below, the game is divided in different levels, each represented by a board with a different environnement. Our graphic designer Alexandre decided to turn this board constraint in a feature of its artistic direction : every level is an island inspired by the Mediterranean environment, its buildings, shapes and colors ! To make it short, A Guy and his Hero is an intuitive experience in VR, accessible to everyone from teenagers to board game nostalgics. It leads you into the quest of a hero you will soon love and want to help really bad ! :) Follow us on Tumblr, Facebook & our Youtube channel to see more exclusive content of the game !
