In high heels.

As little girls, we are always playing dress up. We wobble down the halls in our sparkly dresses with plastic pearls wrapped around our neck, bubblegum pink Barbie sunglasses on, a big curly wig falling off our little  heads, and plastic pink high heels clicking and clacking as we move along. As little girls, it feels like we are invincible, we could walk on down the Hollywood red carpet if we felt like it, just strutting our stuff. Most of us can’t wait to grow up and be a “big girl”, we are so excited for all the  “fun” that it includes. Oh poor naive little girls, you should’ve known better. 

As a teenage girl, we still play dress up --- real-world edition that is. We wake up in the morning, extra early, curl our hair, put on some make-up, and try to concoct something that’s somewhat fashionable. School has gotten less fun over the years, a lot more serious, our days of just worrying about ABC’s have turned into worrying about what will be on this Friday’s AP Chemistry exam. I guess it isn’t as magical as we dream it to be.  Or is it. 

Okay, so it’s not all sunshine and rainbows everyday, but sometimes it can actually be pretty awesome. With age, we get a lot more freedom, and we get to decide what our futures will hold. Personally, I am always planning my future and making sure I understand how one decision or another could affect with what it looks like. We  learn as we grow, and we find our calling(s) in life. Many things change, and others never do, and that helps shape us into our high school seniors selves, ready to face the college world. As I’ve started my first job, I have learned many things. I have found a new passion for business, something I never would’ve really imagined myself doing. It’s pretty awesome actually. 

And even though I continue to change my mind 100 times a day, there are a few things I know I’ll always enjoy, a few things that will always bring out my inner-child and still warm my heart. 

I will always be a Disneynerd who loves elephants, the color purple (on EVERYTHING), is obsessed with the stars, moon, and sun, and who still feels like a serious businesswoman who can take on the world when she slips on her high heels.

Mother and Hoov Know Best.

I have been a part of the YES! team for just a little over a month now, which is slightly hard to believe. A lot has happened in just a little amount of time, and I’ve learned a thing or two. 

You know how people say “Listen to your mother, she’s knows best!” (okay, it’s mostly just our Moms who say it), this phrase has been proven true for me. At our high school, there is a push to start a career pathway as a freshman. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life as Freshman (alright, so at 17 I still don’t know). That is when my Mom suggested that I go into the business pathway through high school, because no matter what field I decided to go into, everyone needs to be computer-friendly and have basic business skills. And boy was she right. 

Along with my Mom’s business advice, my business teacher has set up a good business foundation for me. We have done so many presentations, powerpoints, flyers, brochures, etc. in his classes that when I was asked to create these items for my new job, it was a breeze! He always told us that we would thank him one day for doing so many projects, and now I finally understand the importance of all that hard work. 

So thanks Mom and Mr. Hoover, for pushing me to jump into the business field and for building my business foundation. I truly appreciate both of you!

R.I.P. Dreams of a laid back Senior Year:

Nothing’s better than getting slammed with 30 pages of AP Chem reading on your first day of senior year... right?? Thankful that we got a break on the second day. Maybe senior year isn’t sucha breeze?
