Who has been to Coachella? & if you've been, did you camp, stay at Lake Eldorado or get a hotel? Also, which is best? PLS HELP TRYING TO PLAN SOME THINGS
Paris Donnelly is no stranger to a festival, so it seemed only fitting that she give her style review 'the festival' of the year Coachella. Founded in 1999, the indie event of the year is never short of hipster sentiment or a well placed piercing. Well, provided the piercing's adornment isn't larger than most of your face...
When you think of ‘festival fashion,’ Coachella is really the only word that comes to mind. At this dusty desert destination, the finest, coolest, most stylish trendsetters conglomerate deck out in their boho best. Needless to say, this year’s fashion choices did not disappoint.
When it comes to Coachella, I’m more of a voyeur. I like to look at all the outfits, knowing full well that I’m definitely not cool enough to pull them off. So it came as a surprise when I realised that this year, many kept it simple and chic with looks that are easy to recreate when you live in the middle of Sydney City.
Case in point: Claire L. Evans.
I think the reason I liked this most was because it was super un-Coachella. I am VERY partial to pantsuits, and when electric blue was added to the mix, I was SOLD. The visor, crop top, and nikes kept things laid back and effortlessly cool.
After all, not many Coachella attendees could leave the festival prepared to walk into a business meeting, now could they?
Double Graphic? Works on Everyone!
Jourdan Dunn is ridiculously babin and and looks fab in pretty much anything. For me, she was the pioneer of the ‘double graphic print’ situation - a massive trend this year.
Her amazing body aside, the outfit is flattering for many body shapes because the top and shorts were loose fitting. As for the fluoro undergarments peeking through? Clearly, a nice touch.
Basic is Best
Other winners for me included pre-dominant white with a hint of denim; sheer black details to take away from the otherwise harshness of an all black outfit; leopard print to make a white tee & shoe ensemble pop!
Fairly Major 'Jenner Fail'
The only disappointments were - wait for it - the Jenners! No idea why Kylie thought it was okay to bring back Jessica Simpsons “These Boots are Made for Walkin’” cowboy boots or to incorporate a European backpacker’s fanny pack into her outfit as a ‘statement’. (I can only assume that’s what she was going for. Unless one needs to carry around their passport when entering Coachella?).
Kendall’s ‘statement’ was a nose ring. But not just any nose ring. One that literally encompassed half of her (beautiful) face. There’s no way that could be a comfortable accessory choice for desert dancing. Also a major hazard in a mosh pit. Why does no one think through the practicalities?
Thankfully, I have! So here are my take-away looks to rock in little Ol'Sydney....
1. Crop tops (I really need to start considering sit ups)
2. Clashing prints (MUST ATTEMPT! Apparently, it never goes out of style)
3. Vintage kimonos (apparently my off-the-rack mass produced kimono will not suffice)
4. Hats (Is a hat ever a poor choice? I am thinking never.)
5. Multi-coloured hair (Working up my courage)
