How do I learn what's good in adult books when tumblr and the rest of the internet is all about YA? I love YA as much as anyone, but as I get older I sometimes need a break and I don't know who to trust for adult book recs or what's good. This is especially true as I find myself wanting to find some adult paranormal romance and every time I try so much of it seems to me to be poorly written.
I think you’re just not following the right people. There are plenty of book bloggers who focus more on adult books. You can also become one and represent that side of tumblr. I read adult urban fantasy too, but not as often and don’t post about it as much.
Instead of buying the books, you might want to burrow them from the library. Trust me once you start looking and posting things about what you like, people will come. Do not bother finishing books you don’t like, it’ll save you time. Life is too short for shitty books. Also, check the tags for different books.
I recommend checking out Deathless by Catherynne M Valente, Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate, Sunshine by Robin McKinley, How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper, books by Neil Gaiman (Neverwhere, American Gods), Terry Pratchett, Patricia Briggs (Mercedes Thompson), V.E. Schwab (Vicious) - writes great sci-fi/supernatural.
I know getting a recommendations from a human being might be more reliable, but I mean, finding someone whose recommendations you trust is even harder.
