Summary: You go to lunch with Guy one day, and wondered what it would be like to hold his hand.
Warnings: Fluff, Guy’s PG teasing
Pairings: Reader x Guy Avari/Guy Monas (Court of Darkness)
Author’s Note: Because Guy is a tease.
“Done classes?”
I was on my way back from classes and ready to get lunch from the refectory, when I happened across Guy along the way. Seeing the man I love waiting so patiently for me there drew a smile across my lips to greet him as I held my book close in my arms. “For the morning! I have some time until my next class.”
With no one around, he returned my smile with an affectionate and handsome one.
It was impossible to ever hold myself against that smile, that the secret slipped past my lips one day and the response he gave me was far from his former deadpanned tone. Rather, he laughed and determined to use his newfound weapon to make my heart flutter anew each time we were together.
Each time he did, I was thankful that the privacy of his quarters encased my embarrassment, where his valet Jasper seemed to have developed an intuition of not intruding until something important came up or the reluctance to leave him for classes would arise within me.
Missing class was not an option after it became known among the other S Rank princes that I had chosen Guy, nor would I dare to show up with any sort of marks, lest I desire the wrath of the Avari Aficionados despite our relationship. But that hardly deterred Guy from showing I was his, as we became closer in front of everyone, and spent lots of time together that the message was loud and clear. The flares of his aura was complete proof of what we were doing, as it took time for it to wear away, and my cheeks would be as red as the glow of magic that surrounded him.
“Come. Jasper also made lunch for you.”
“Coming!”
Gathering him to speak his mind more often with me was a feat of its own, though I knew Guy had his own way of communicating and we became more attuned to each other.
As we wandered to the elevator lift, I felt the graze of his hand briefly against mine and my gaze drifted down in thought. Though awkward and public as it may be, there was the thought that had been lingering in my mind for quite some time but I had forgotten to ask about by the time I saw him: I wanted to hold his hand.
“–What is it?” His voice pulled me out of my thoughts, prompting me to look up at him just as the elevator was being called down to meet us.
“Hm?” I barely heard him call my name.
“You were not listening again, were you.” He sighed, staving off a scowl as he stopped to turn towards me and enclosed the gap between us by leaning down to be of the same eye level. "You have been of odds lately. Does your body ail you?"
A simple silly thought like that flew out of the window and my first instinct was to shake my head. "N-No, I'm fine! I… I've just been thinking about some things." And in no way is that a lie.
He takes my silence as a reason to back off, though I can see the way it bothers him in his expression before we enter the lift.
Oh great. I made it awkward. I wanted to smack myself on the forehead for it as I stood quietly next to him. Would he say anything or be bothered if I took his hand…? I looked down at his hand then as discreetly as I could at his side profile. I felt flustered, fighting with my indecision. I could do everything else he said but take his hand on my own discretion was something that questioned comfort in doing publicly. … Maybe I should ask him about it later.
The lift opens without another move made and we both leave it, though his long legs make him advance ahead of me until he pauses to face me yet again.
"Guy?" Warmth encloses around my hand, fingers lacing between the spaces of mine. I look up to him again and he's smiling that handsome smile, enticing a warmth to creep its way across my cheeks that turns his smile into a smirk of satisfaction.
"My paramour walks alongside of me, not behind me. Shall I keep you close like this then?"
The way he says it has me ready to melt into a puddle, and the realization that my thoughts have been bare on my expression enough for him to act on it so has rendered me speechless and stutter before I can gather my bearings.
“Y-You– Are you sure you don’t have mind reading powers?”
He chuckles, lifting my hand to brush his lips against my knuckles. “You wear your thoughts as you do so with that bleeding heart of yours.” His voice is low and deep for my ears, coercing me close. “Show your thoughts to me alone. Let not another see your vulnerability.”
“You make it sound easier said than done.”
He arches a brow. “Shall I teach you then?”
“You parade around so proudly with your aura. I think you may need to keep teaching me more so no one can see what I show and do with you.” Warmth leaves the back of my hand as he lowers our intertwined fingers, leaving me to look up at him curiously.
But he steps in until I am against him, his lips dropped to my ear. “Shall I begin teaching you tonight?”
My cheeks flared so deeply as I stepped back, though he would not relinquish his hold. “G-Guy!”
For a moment, there was a flash of a smirk before he turned back towards his quarters, tugging me along for our lunch together where he continued to laugh and tease me behind closed doors.

I am quite certain I previously told her to not overdo it. My mind played back to the conversation in the hallway not too long ago when I had been walking to my next class with Roy and had bumped into Sherry, as we seemed to always do. But she wasn’t there.
“She really loves you, Master Guy.”
There was the temptation to twitch a brow at Sherry’s words, but I schooled my expression to try to understand what compelled her to say this. “...What is this.”
"She's been practicing hard and showing improvement. She must be wanting to make sure she can be someone worthy of being with you. But it seems she overdid it and is ill in bed as a result for today."
To become someone worthy of being with me? She has given me her oath, has she not?
I stop in front of her door. Was it… because her worries are consumed by not being able to be with me due to her lack of control? I had not been able to see her last night due to some matters that came up from home, but I was not willing to dash away knowing my paramour lies in bed ill.
Without a moment of hesitation and thought, the door unlocked and I stepped in, where I was greeted by her winged feline familiar.
“Master Guy!” His name had automatically become ‘Cat’ for me, despite the fact that she had told me his name repeatedly. “Milady is resting and unwell today. She apologizes that she cannot see you today.”
“Of that, which is why I am here.” My lips purse when I see her in bed, her hair in a state and the blankets fallen past below her hips. The closer I become, the more I can see the way her chest heaves and the wet cloth that sits on her forehead that had been made cold from the bowl of water at her bedside. Taking the cloth, I will the water to remain a touch colder and let the cloth chill with a ring before the cloth floats back onto her forehead.
“Mrm…” My paramour stirs in her bed, the flutter of her eyelids and she looks up at me with a flush of colour on her cheeks. “Guy…”
“Have you eaten?” I refrain from scolding her like I usually would have. The words Sherry uttered still wear on my mind.
“No…” Her hand gently reaches for me, and I take it to hold it close to me, brushing my lips against her knuckles. She’s burning up. “I’m sorry…”
I do not need her apology for the thoughts that consume her to this extent. “You are my paramour. You have chosen me as I have chosen you, so remain as you are.” I say the words as I can only think to reassure her, kissing her knuckles once more. With the state she is in, I know I cannot reaffirm my feelings in a kiss upon her lips, for the magical stores she is working to replenish in her rest will result in a transference to me.
So I can only caress her cheek and brush the strands of hair away from her face.
“Does your body ail?”
“Just a bit sore…” she murmurs, closing her eyes briefly. “Your hand feels so nice…” The heat of her body is a deep contrast to the cold I bring to my hands so that I could grant her some comfort, ensuring that the cloth is refreshed for her.
“I sent Jasper to get food for you.” Perhaps a normal meal would not work this time, but a soup would provide her some energy and prevent any other problems that may come up from her lack of nutrition.
“Thank you…” she whispers hoarsely. Carefully, she’s stirring once more, this time allowing the cloth to drop as she makes to rise, though I protest with my hands on her shoulders and she places her free hand on my sleeve, a gentle shake of her head. “I’m not leaving the bed…”
Curiously, I let her do what she likes, and the innocent act of her sitting up with her arms encircled around me as her head rests against my shoulder for comfort is enough to make my lips curve into the smile she loves. In return, I pull her into my lap, granting her more comfort by doing so and cradling her as I right myself on her bed. Her breath fans against my neck, and I feel from its pace that I have granted her the solace she seeks.
For the extent of her powers, I wonder what she has done so much to result in her ailment.
I do not ask in time, a rapt at the door and it is Jasper with a meal for her. My fingers continue to card through her soft locks and I cannot bear to part with the peace she wears in her sleeping expression, but I think other of it, for the sake of her energy. “Your food is here,” I say to her gently in her ear, hoping to beckon her awake from the gentle sleep she has drifted into.
The red eyes she has gained with her sigillum arcanum look up at me drowsily then down to the tray, nodding. “Thank you,” she says to Jasper.
Neither of us are disturbed that Jasper has seen us in this state, though I had ignored it for the sake of her care.
“I will leave you two be, Master Guy.” There’s a faint smile on his lips as he leaves, for the man I’ve trusted as my valet since my infancy knows my avarice is no longer for her power, but for her love as mine is hers.
Silence is hardly bothersome as I soothe her hot skin, until she has finished the very last drop of her soup. The cat himself has kept his distance to provide us as much privacy, but I have a feeling there is more to this that neither of them, or Sherry is willing to tell me. In the past, I would not hesitate to use ancient magic, but she is my equal, my paramour, for her I will give no orders or demand them of her until she readily speaks.
For her, I will not allow spineless rumours to plague her thoughts and send her into ruin, but to fill her mind with thoughts of me and my love for her.
I must refrain from kissing her, dare I steal her strength, and it takes all of me when she looks up at me with that drowsy yet giddy and beautiful smile of hers.
The colour in her cheeks is returning, staving off the heat bit by bit, though it takes but a time to recover from this predicament. Her arms circle back around me, the bowl gone from her hands and on the table by her bed, but my eyes are certain that it was not me who had done that.
“Rest.” The gentleness I have for her brings a calm to my emotions, settling her onto the bed despite her unwillingness to remove herself from me. I do not want to leave you either. I have been without her presence more and more these days in exchange for her increased training with the Invidian princess, that my yearning for her has grown more than the time I had been gone to Avari without her.
“Stay a little longer…?” she asks of me.
“I will remain until you slumber.” In time, I will return, for I know the longer I stay by her side, the more that I loathe to part from her and her rest will be lost at my expense. So I lay with her for a while longer, allow my emotions to toil further as I watch her fight the call of sleep to gaze back at me. It is the fragility of her peaceful expression that overcomes her once more, and reluctantly, my lips press to her forehead. “Rest well.”
My parting words with her cat are but a simple instruction to take care of her, before I slip out of her room quietly to head towards my next class.

The day felt like a blur, seeing as how I had been in and out of sleep to make sure that I regained every single ounce of my energy. My gaze drifted to the gift I had spent lots of time and care into creating, making sure that it was at its absolute most perfect. It was something small, not exactly worthwhile or high value, though I hoped that it could prove that I was capable of doing things.
Even if it meant building it from scratch. I had even so much as attempted to try one more time from scratch now that I was fully rested, and the dirt I had managed to gather by the spring shaped itself anew. This time, everything danced around me with more ease, creating the start of a matching pair to the first one I created for Guy.
The more it held its shape, the more I was able to simply rotate it mid-air, ensuring that each patch that had been fixed was seamless and perfectly curved.
"Milady, are you sure you should be doing this? You may exhaust yourself again." Worried eyes look up at me as my own focus on the flames that lick the clay.
"Don't worry, I feel much better now," I said, allowing a smile to reassure my familiar. I didn't want to tear my attention away from this gift. "Did he ask you anything when he came?"
"No, Milady. He only came to see you and made sure you're okay,” he responded. “I didn’t tell him about your gift for him!”
Oh, Guy. He could be a cruel tease when he wanted, but he knew how to make my heart flutter that Sherry would giggle at how I was so smitten by him. But he had his own way of worrying, even if the end result had him tending to my injuries due to my carelessness. It didn’t surprise me this time, but I was certain I was going to get scolded. My brows knit together as his words from earlier.
“You are my paramour. You have chosen me as I have chosen you, so remain as you are.”
All I could recall was his expression as he watched over me so tenderly and uttered those words, with no context to them. What did he mean by that–
Crack!
The sound brought me out of my thoughts, horror washing over me as I realized that the heat of my flames had been too hot and resulted in a crack of the pottery that I had been attempting to make. The fire died out as the object landed on my desk in two with a soft clatter and my immediate reaction was to turn to the time.
"Oh no…"
“Oh no, Milady, your gift!”
I was not going to have enough time to try again.
The amount it took to cure it was similar to curing it like regular pottery would, or else the end result would be like what laid in front of me.
My gaze went to the bundle that was from yesterday's finished product. It was all that remained from the hours of constant practice. I wanted to be there when he woke up and greet him for his birthday, yet I knew I had no time left to spare if I had to run back out to the spring and find the right type of dirt to create my artwork. Instead, I had to devote my remaining time to adding the finishing touches and slip into bed for a nap.
By the time I was refreshed and started for Guy’s quarters with his gift neatly packed in a box, the sun was peeking over the horizon.
My mind was full of doubts, both in my abilities and in the gift I would be presenting. Was this going to be a good idea? Would he even like this? It was far from the vision of perfection with the amount of energy that had to be consumed to arrive to this point, and the back of my mind screamed at the fact that I could do better than what I was providing. My thoughts plagued me every step of the way, shrouding my being with hesitation as I stood in front of his door and my gaze downcast at the gift. It was a box with a red ribbon, my fingers tempted to fumble if it wasn’t for the weight. It wasn't heavy, but it felt like the weight was gravitating me away from the door.
"You're right on time." The voice was a reminder that I could not escape now that I had committed to the plan I formulated, wearing a kind smile as Jasper approached me..
"Good morning, Jasper." I could only smile sheepishly in return. With Jasper as Guy’s valet, I saw no one better than to entice into my plan to surprise Guy for his birthday, though it required having to communicate with written messages or while I waited for Guy. Only Sherry and he knew what I was up to.
"Is this your gift for Master Guy?"
"Oh–… uhm…"
Seeing my hesitation, he smiles reassuringly. "Fret not. I am certain His Highness will appreciate what you have given him. Shall we?" He would know better than anyone the things that Guy would like, having been with him for so long, though the worries sound the drums of my heartbeat louder than the click of the door that he opens for me.
With this, I’m one step to greeting him for the day, but I’m also a step in my heart full of hesitation. The door to his bedchambers becomes my next hurdle and I can only take a deep breath, just as Jasper takes a hold of the handle. There is no turning back from here the moment I hear it click.
This point of entry was where Jasper came in and became the most vital point to my surprise, since this would be Guy's usual waking time and it gave me the chance to slip in. My magic floated the gift box to the corner, while my own feet began to walk on air towards his bed until I was able to lean over the bed. Floating magic had its benefits to learn how to take me away from the ground, though flying was far from my arsenal of magic that I had hidden and ready to show Guy.
His sleeping expression was soft and gentle, that boyish look that made me smile and reach to brush a strand of hair out of his face. He looked so calm, so at peace.
Maybe if I just… floated myself onto the bed so I don’t wake him up… The idea hardly had a moment to take shape as my outstretched hand was suddenly grabbed by the wrist. "Wah!" Everything turned upside down as I found the cushion of his soft bed under my back, hands pinned above my head before I could look up at the man I love.
There's a moment of confusion crossing his crimson eyes, widening in surprise as I've been caught in his grasp.
So I might do a walkthrough for Court of Darkness' Guy Avari. I know there were some I got wrong, so I'll only post the correct answers and do another run-through as soon as I'm done the first one to make sure I get the proper answers.
I’m currently on chapter 29, so I’m chilling a bit to do my battles because I’m pretty sure it’s going to ask for a ton of spirit points again.
