Mer! Kev being rescued by some well-intentioned marine biologists.

Unfortunately, he hasn't had the best reasons to trust humans lately...

The salt water is a relief, even as it stings his bruised and blistered skin.

He does not like those bottles and things, but none of it looks sharp... this human better not try anything funny, one flick of the tail is all he needs to crush her puny body.

It's gonna take a while to establish trust... but it's a start!

Good morning! How are you? I imagine caring for a hissy little mer with a ton of trauma can be quite challenging sometimes, especially when people are so set on trying to filet him XD

Anyways, you mentioned Kev is touch starved? How about someone giving him what he wants? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't let anyone close enough for that if he was completely healthy, so how about him being kidnapped and drugged and thrown into some basement (the drugs are to lower his guard) There's already another whumpee there, someone who went through the same things and therefore takes care of Kev all night. They wipe him down with a wet cloth so he doesn't dry out, hold his hand when Kev reaches out blindly for something to hold onto, maybe even hug him, carefully, making sure Kev feels safe and held instead of caged in.

I'm sure as soon as the drugs are out of his system Kev's guard is back up but maybe he still feels cared for or maybe even trusts the other now, considering they could have hurt him when he was vulnerable and did the opposite instead.

Anon... that is so sweet... he deserves a bit of comfort after all this 🥺

Yay, Mermay with MerKev! :D

Poor thing has barely gotten any kindness in his life. What do you think, how long would it take for MerKev to start trusting someone and what would it take? Maybe someone leaves out fish for him regularly after witnessing him eating scraps. They aren't stupid enough to try and touch him at first (they want to keep their limbs intact thank you XD) but maybe, just maybe, MerKev would let them touch him after a while? In case he needs help with something (a splinter in his tailfin maybe that he can't pull out without help)

Hmmm... it would take a while, for sure, but it is possible. Food is definitely the right way to do it, if you're discreet enough he doesn't suspect you're trying to poison him at first.

The medical help is more sensitive, but can be step two. He can always bash the person to death if they try anything funny, after all, so he'd let them try.

Maybe it's really hot and dry outside, and one day he accepts the friendly human's offer to dip in their pool when he's all dehydrated. Days pass, trust slowly building, until they get to a point when he allows cuddles!

He's kept caged or leashed by a team of monster hunters who use him to track down and hunt other monsters and torture him with silver weapons and sunlight-mimicking torches to ensure his subservience

I long debated if I really should end this year's mermay adventure on this ask of all. And I decided: yes.

It was tough and endlessly annoying, but he did it. He butchered every one of those dumb land animals and made it back to the sea.

He is so, so, SO done.

I almost feel guilty about sending this in but.. Kev suffers so beautifully! I know that gills are incredibly delicate, they crush and tear so easily and with all the blood vessels it would be so easy to make Kev bleed. So may I ask for a kidnapper or capturer of Kev to push something into his gills? It can be anything of your choice; fingers, if the kidnapper "just wants to take a look inside" as he forcefully pries them open, or, if you want to go down the real cruel way, something sharp, like a shard of glass or a knife (I'm so sorry Kev TT)
