Popping by to say how much I love The Warren, and to thank you for sharing such a wonderful story with all of us!!!! I’ve been in a very Warren-y mood recently but have been too busy to sit down and give it a proper re-read, so I’ve been rereading all of my favourite parts and reliving some of the fun. Hoping to have a good marathon read soon! The first time I read it was last fall and I did it all in one go, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Absolute masterpiece.
Easily one of my favourite versions of Price, but I also have to give you mad props for the way you wrote Nik. I’m a nik girlie through and through but the way you wrote him made my skin crawl every time he shows up…slimy slimy man, do not trust that one bit. I will say that ever since I read mounting I have imagined him adopting a “shop cat” for himself the same way simon got johnny…not sure if that’s really Nik’s style in The Warren, but it has sure given me something to chew on.
ahhhh, thank you! what a message to end the week!
i'm biased, but i think late summer into early fall is a good time to read it. it's slowly getting darker earlier, maybe you're a little weary of the go go go of summer (ME), maybe you're itching to go wandering through the spookiest biome near you...but for real, i am so tickled whenever folks tell me they're planning another read! it gobsmacks me every time. i hope whenever and however you get around to reading it again, you have a good time.
as for nik, yeah, i remember his parts coming pretty easily to me, whether that was him trying to creep reader out or getting under ghost's skin. i had a very clear idea of who he was going to be in the story from the beginning. and funny you should say that about the cat. :)
there's a lot i wanted to explore in the warren that i ultimately cut for time and length, and simply because it didn't feed into the central story. mounting came to be because i had cut so much soap stuff out of the main fic. i basically pasted what was on the cutting room floor together and expanded on it.
but! i do have some loosey-goosey plans to explore a few of those threads further in the future.
