park knows when she's faking something. pretending to like a dish, a band, a movie. a gift she gets from her dad in the mail (which, it is the thought that counts and she loves her dad, but a girl asks for a pony one time when she's eleven and suddenly she gets horse stuff every birthday). one time, an orgasm (ty for this, bo). how she will muscle through small talk when they go to dinner after a long day, because even though the last thing she wants to do is talk to a stranger, she would rather lose a finger than be rude to a waitress.

he hears the difference between her normal laugh and the one she forces a second too late, when she doesn't actually find something all that funny. he knows i'm fine, i promise means anything but, and when she agrees to plans she doesn't have the energy for. he knows when she insists she's not chilly, that her hands are ice cold, and, infuriatingly, how she will pretend she doesn't mind when someone steals her lunch (right under the $20 fine sign!). her nose scrunches when someone gives her unsolicited advice and it's bullshit.

he wants to haul her into his lap in the car when she brushes off a bad day with a little shrug, and tries to downplay it. she's always trying to smooth everything over so no one has to feel uncomfortable but her. and he's not having it. not with him. so yeah, he makes her bite him back. makes her say no to people more. makes her sit through every song she queues up without skipping halfway through out of embarrassment, and explain all of her five star ratings on goodreads.

(however, there's no convincing her to tell her dad she's outgrown the horse thing, so the little herd of porcelain figurines stays.)
