Dazed & Confused
Daphne set about to the kitchen as usual after Martin’s physical therapy session. She would help him back to his bed to rest for a while, and then go to the kitchen to give him some privacy and to clean up and do dishes before she’d start lunch. Then Dr. Crane would come home and they would all eat together. A comfortable schedule has set in since Daphne’s arrival, and she had to say she enjoyed it.
Absentmindedly, Daphne walked the familiar hallway, down the two steps, and past the table into the kitchen, rolling up her sleeves. She stopped, though, when she realized that there were no dishes in the sink. “Oohh, wha’ a nice surprise,” she murmured to herself, but wondered: how did that happen? It wasn’t Martin, she’d been with him for most of the morning, and they’d been in therapy since after breakfast. With a bewildered smile, Daphne began taking the clean dishes from the dishwasher and strainer and putting them away.
