UPDATE: Student and Car Found, Suspect Apprehended; Anderson Student Missing After Carjacked and Kidnapped at Gunpoint
UPDATE: After finding the missing student and her car, Newark Police have apprehended a suspect in her carjacking and kidnapping.
Newark Police spotted the stolen car at ABC Liquor Store, 1014 South Orange Avenue, at 8:02pm. The vehicle was empty. Police went into the liquor store and spotted a suspicious white male.
Police apprehended Michael Nathan, 23, of Newark, who had a gun in his hand, as well as the keys to the Honda Civic. The female driver was unharmed, found hiding in the liquor store restroom.
Nathan was charged with kidnapping and possession of an illegal firearm. He was taken into custody of an illegal firearm. He was taken into custody without incident.
Robert Gibson, college spokesman, said, “We are grateful that this student was unharmed, and we will be conducting an investigation into how this person was able to enter campus.
The female student’s parents picked her up at South Orange police station after giving her statement to the police.
An Anderson student was carjacked in the D parking lot tonight and continues to be missing, as she was kidnapped in her carjacked car.
At 6:35pm tonight, South Orange police received a 911 phone call from an Anderson main gate guard who witnessed the carjacking of a female student at gunpoint in the lot adjacent to the guard station.
The guard reported that she was driving a silver Honda Civic and gave police the car’s license plate number, which the university used to determine that the woman is a student. Her name is not being released at this time.
Also, there is no description of the carjacker at this time.
Robert Gibson, Anderson spokesman, said, “Everything possible is being done to locate the car and student and bring this to a safe resolution.”
