Screen Enclosures: A Love Letter to Not Swatting Mosquitoes

This weekend, I finally got around to cleaning the dead moths out of our porch fan. Which led me down a rabbit hole: Why do we even have a porch if we can’t use it after dusk? The mosquito population here seems to think my blood type is “free buffet.”

I’d written off screen enclosures as something for Florida retirees, but then I saw a local example from DecKor’s portfolio—a Colorado Springs home with a sleek, black-framed screen room that looked modern, not like a grandma’s sunporch. Their page mentioned pet-resistant mesh (critical, since my dog believes screens are just “soft doors”). (Screen Enclosure Services)

Game-changer: You can get UV-blocking screens? So it’s shade and bug protection? Suddenly, I’m picturing lazy evenings out there with a book, zero insect-related screaming. Maybe even hanging a projector screen for outdoor movies.

Downside: Now I have to convince my partner that this is a necessity, not a “Pinterest whim.” Wish me luck.

My first Tumblr post. I took this image at Rocky Mountain National Park in October last year. I never shared this anywhere else because it is very similar to an image I took the month before, which I shared everywhere. I actually like this image better though because I like the logs in the foreground and the vertical position of the Milky Way.
