Sparklink Stars basic translation for trailer.
A heads off for this, it's google translate that I used so I'm trying to clean it up into clearer English. This was what I was able to gather from the trailer and what the story line seems to be implying.
It starts out with the book called The Sparkle Tale...
First lines: A story from long ago. Illuminated by two stars there was a small island. On that island, which emitted a mysterious sparkle, people lived their days filled with smiles.
Second line: One day, a single shinning seed appeared.
Third Line: The two stars watching over the island bestowed a gift upon us as testament to the exhilarating moments we shared. (Or it could be as proof of a time filled with excitement, they/he gave me a gift.) Fourth line: As the seed sprouted, many mysterious lights gathered from the sky and sea.
Fifth line: It's talked about all over the world. A story full of dreams and hope.
Sixth line: The seed became one with the mysterious lights and grew large and became a beautiful tree, with many lights (adorning) illuminating it's branches.
Seventh line: When people smile. A time when your eyes light up with dreams and hopes. When you make a wish upon a star.
Eighth line: Sparkling particles of light always seemed to dance around the air.
Nineth line: Those particles of light rose into the sky, weaving a beautiful story into the starry night.
Tenth line: The story eventually spread throughout the island, becoming a wonderful force that led people to happiness, and the island, floating at the edged of the world, gradually prospered. Eleventh line: Many years have passed since then. Even now that it has passed --
Twelfth line: That power, once called "Magic", has transformed, bringing excitement and smiles to the island.
That's the translation of the trailer.
Some interesting implications regarding the game based on this limited bit. Firstly we know there is Magic that will be involved. The seed and the tree are very similar to Disney's world tree at Animal Kingdom in Orlando Florida. Which does a whole illumination show using the tree for projections and it lights up. The tree and seed from the trailer show multiple colors all over the leaves in different sections, so it makes me think of elements that will be used, much like Twisted Wonderland. Another thing is that the seed also has colors all over it in twisted vines.
Another interesting thing is that the island is floating and on the edge of the world, and we have pixie sparkles. These are used a lot in Disney to imply magic, and most mage characters, wizards and good witches use the sparkles. While villains tend to have fire or other styles of visuals to show off their magic. It makes me think we're looking at mages but in a different way then Twisted wonderland. Something else that's interesting is that the teaser image shows the tree in the middle, a castle on the right of the screen, and a town on the left. Making me think there's going to be a possible magic school or some connection between the three areas that we as players have to cover. One other thing that caught my attention, along with the two stars which can follow various myths in Japanese lore, or be nods to Star from Wish and the Blue Fairy's star/wishing star, is the fact that Pixar is referenced on the bottom under trademarks. Unlike Twisted Wonderland which seems to be focused on just Disney Animation right now, Sparklink might include Pixar properties (my guess is Brave, Turning Red, and any that hints at magic) which would lead to some interesting uses. Of note about the company that is running this game. Coly is known for both visual novels with some romantic elements, a few Otome games directly, and at least two mystery games. Typically for them they have two sorts of game play in their games. The first is the visual novel aspect, where you make choices, the second though is typically either a bejeweled like matching game that you have to play, or what seems to be a pvp game via Promise of Wizards (think a bit like Fire Emblem Heroes). Wiki for Promise of Wizard to learn about the game can be found here
Game play and review for Break my Case game can be found here The art work reminds me of Promise of Wizards so I think they're going to be going with that style of game and that style of play. Which means, much like Fire Emblem Heroes, you'll be summoning and building your own team of mages or something that will help you fight against something. There are hints that the story seems to imply something is going to happen to the smiles and wishes. I haven't had a chance to check out the story, anime or manga version of this game so I can't really say much about Promise of Wizard. But apparently it's popular enough like Touken Ranbu to have a wiki devoted to helping people play it, so it's doing well. We'll have to wait and see about the art that comes in the near future. Though, of note, the game was moved back from it's release date to January for some reason and Coly hasn't been doing well in the stocks, unlike Aniplex for Twisted, so I'm not sure how well this game is going to be received in Japan compared to that. Hopefully there's going to be some interesting aspects to this game. Do I think it's going to be an otome, no, honestly I don't given that it still is a Disney game and they tend to focus on all out inclusion so that anyone can be the lead, rather than just having it be a female lead that romances a guy. So my guess is it's going to keep to the Yuu aspect from Twisted and other games that have taken on that aspect, Uta Prince I'm looking at you.
