I'm getting really exasperated with explaining certain thins to people. Mainly, the whole using a race as an insult or 'fake' insult friends with racial slurs. Like, when my sister is talking about her friend, she's said that she says "Whatever white girl," and her friend says "Whatever black girl". I get that it's a joke but it's really annoying?? Black people can act 'white' and white people can act 'black'- I've never understood the joke my entire life. I was hoping you could explain???
The whole idea of "acting" a certain race is just a means of using racial stereotypes to make a joke. "Acting white" is usually acting like a brat, uppity, or like you're better than someone else. "Acting black" is usually a means to say someone is acting trashy or "ghetto". Obviously, both are negative stereotypes and I don't support the use of either, but it's far worse to compare someone acting a certain way of a privileged race to someone of an oppressed race. The idea of it just kind of demonizes people and ignores the oppression of racial minorities.
