Original piece from the Palau de la Virreina from Gràcia neighborhood in Barcelona.
It is the only vestige that is conserved of the old palace already demolished; and they are embedded in the side façade of the church of Sant Joan at Virreina Square, along Carrer de l'Església street.
The medallions are represented by the viceroy and his wife, María Francesca. "Legend has it that if one stands in front of these medallions at midnight and repeats the name of the Viceroy's mistress, Perricholi, three times, the face that represents the Viceroy becomes angry." (tourhistoria.es)
