Montero's 2011 Fantasy Baseball Predictions
Rookie of The Year
NL: Freddie Freeman, 1B, Atl
The Reason: Starting first basemen for the Atlanta Braves as spring training opens. In a weak NL rookie class, he should rise head and shoulders above the rest. He probably won’t have as huge of a year as last year’s rookies (Heyward, Posey, Davis) but you can expect a solid 60 Runs, 14 HR, 65 RBI, .265 Avg, 3 SB.
AL: Kyle Drabek, SP, Tor
The Reason: Kyle is going to be a starting pitcher on the Blue Jays from opening day, giving him a head start to rack up numbers. Toronto’s pitching staff is very weak with only Brandon Morrow and Ricky Romero ahead of him. That will mean even with early struggles, they will keep him in the rotation because he is the best they have. 10-14, 4.30 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 185 IP, 165K’s.
Comeback Player
Refers to a player that was hurt or struggled last year.
NL: Carlos Lee, OF, Hou
The Reason: Carlos was one of the most consistent hitters from 2003-2008, averaging 31 HR, 109 RBI, .300 Avg. I feel that even at 34 going on 35, he can get back to his better days this season. He just has to hope that his teammates get on base enough so that he can drive ‘em in. 70 Runs, 32 HR, 100 RBI, .300 Avg., and 9 SB.
AL: Grady Sizemore, OF, Cle
The Reason: Sizemore has been battling injuries his whole career and last year was no exception. When healthy he is a five tool stud that you can get cheap. Going in the 10/12 round, you can a good player that may give you: 105 Runs, 30 HR, 80 RBI, .270 Avg, with 30 Sb.
