#JackedKirby - The Origin of Sore, Son of Shmodin!!! 💥💥💥 With the recent passing of legendary MAD Magazine artist Mort Drucker last week I picked up my copy of Not Brand Echh!!! to see some of Marvel’s copycat funny book work. #Issue3 of the series is one of the best since it features the “origin” stories of Charlie America, The Indelible Bulk and Sore, Son of Shmodin! (Cap, Hulk and Thor) 💥💥💥 The issue came out in October of 1967 and Marvel thought it would be smart to jump on the “parody/humor” magazine bandwagon by making fun of their own characters... and this turned into a passion project for some of the best and brightest of Marvel’s Bullpen. Marie Severin was a large contributor, along with Roy “The Boy” Thomas, Gene “The Dean” Colan alongside Stan and Jack to bring the series to fruition. So this issue decided to profile the parody origins of three of Marvels three biggest heroes. 💥💥💥 Jack did the pencil art for the Sore, Son of Shmodin story in the book. He opened with a classic Kirby Splash of Sore and his evil nemesis Hokey! Classic Jack artwork making fun of his own Asgardian creations... hysterical!!!! To me this is the best story of the issue... but they are all great! 💥💥💥 Side note - The cover to this issue, done by Marie Severin, was the cover chosen for the collected version of this series that was a recently released! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #Sore #SoreSonOfShmodin #NotBrandEchh #Marvel #ParodyMagazine #Humor #ComicsOfThe60s #60sComics #IGComics #ComicsOfIG #ComicBook #Comic #ComjcBooks #Comics https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Dw6uiBTF-/?igshid=eqed289116gw
