Boomers sure are offended when they think you’re rewarding your dog for “doing nothing”

“Your rewarding for nothing?! You’re just giving treats and hoping for the best!”

If you think my Malinois is doing “nothing” by volunteering a chin rest with her back turned to multiple dogs barking & lunging at her that’s a you problem. My girl gets as many treats as she wants and in return I get a calm dog who volunteers for multiple injections & blood draws in a row with a happy tail and no restraints. If being calm under stress isn’t reward worthy, I’d hate to see how you with your little Yorkie would react to the alternative. Ugh

Taravali’s First Vaccines With Me

Our first vet visit was a “Happy Visit” meaning we met with the vet and let Taravali get used to the environment without the pressure of doing vaccines. Since then, I’ve been working on settling on her mat & a chin rest to opt-in to handling. Today was our second appointment. I was excited to see how well her skills carried over in such an intense environment.

My goal is to get her to voluntarily opt-in for injections by the time we finish her puppy vaccines. Today we did a few practice rounds but ultimately waited until she was distracted to do the actual injection. It’s still a fear free way to do the vaccines but chin rest = treat is very different than chin rest = vaccine = treat. One is a distraction and the other is facilitating autonomy & trust.

For some it’s a subtle difference but to me cooperative care elevates your relationship to a drastically different level. To have a dog who trusts you to care for them even when things are scary or painful is a privilege and worth my time & effort.

I am fucking tired of people using the word "empathy" when they clearly mean "compassion".

Being empathetic isn't being able to care about other people, that's what being compassionate is.

Just because you may not understand exactly what a person is feeling or be able to experience their emotions with them does not mean you do not care about other people, or that you don't want to help them.

Democrats favor funding for community-based care which is voluntary, and which meets people where they are. Republicans are for a return to the old, draconian approach to mental illness - locking people up and throwing away the key.

Compasionate treatment costs less and is more effective.

people who make up shit about late term abortion piss me off so much oh my god no woman is aborting at 8 months because she decided she simply does not want the child anymore.

having late term abortion be your biggest political issue because you think living babies are being yanked apart for funsies, i hate to tell you, just proves that you’re incredibly stupid and easily swayed by false information. like jfc. you’d be extremely hard pressed to find a doctor who would abort a viable late term pregnancy.

if the fetus is alive and compatible with life beyond the point at which it could live outside the womb and the woman is experiencing complications severe enough to warrant ending the pregnancy, THEY’LL DO AN EMERGENCY CESSARIAN (or perhaps for more minor complications simply induce labor). if, however, the fetus has died in utero, a late term abortion is typically recommended over a natural birth, as housing a dead body in your womb and birthing it poses a significant risk of sepsis and shock. or, perhaps, it has been discovered that the fetus will not live through birth or will perish shortly thereafter and an expectant mother is given the choice between carrying to term, possibly needing a cessarian (thus making her require a cessarian for any following pregnancy), and allowing her child a painful death OR to spare her child and herself from all of that with a late term abortion.

contesting the legality of late term abortion is proof that your activism is 100% performative and not based off of any compassion for the “unborn”, because if you take literally five minutes to research the issue you would know that it is pretty much either a difficult choice made by the mother out of compassion for a child she greatly wanted, or a choice made because the fetus has already died and the mother understandably does not want it to rot inside of her. the only reason to be against late-term abortion being legal is because you want women in an already difficult situation, where they’re grieving, to go through more pain and possibly die. but yeahhh, God loves you for it or whatever.
