“ TELL ME ! SOME DAYS I GET CURIOUS ON YOUR TRUE TALENT ! ULTIMATE SUPREME LEADER ? ” A PAUSE, tapping on his chin, letting out a noise akin to a SIGH. Thinking as if with hesitation. “ ULTIMATE LIAR SEEMS FOR FITTING ! DON’T YOU AGREE ? ” A SMALL LAUGH sounds from open jaws. A strangely SOFT jab from FATHER to SON. // @compulsivelylied
give me that good meta on how he is affected by the death's of certain students ( which students, that's all up to you my friend ! )
[ SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE V3 PLOTLINE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ]
As we all know, Kiibo is practically ignored in the series. His character isn’t really touched upon until Chapter 6, which leaves a lot of the game where people shouldn’t really care for him because he’s just…there? I won’t deny what he did was fucking amazing in the last chapter, but I digress…
So before we see whose deaths he was affected by, let’s consider the state of Kiibo as the game continues on. As stated during the infamous yet consensual maintenance scene between himself and Miu, Kiibo has stopped taking care of his systems. Or, in his own words, he was neglecting his needs ever since he arrived at the academy. Now, I know he wouldn’t go as far as to completely stop caring for himself for no reason, so what gives? My answer is? This guy can feel just as stressed as anyone else can. He’s being told left and right to do things that the others cannot because he is a robot and therefore can’t experience the same emotions as anyone else can. Kiibo has stated that when a situation is out of his control, he can become extremely nervous and rely on others for help.
So, with Miu being the only friend he really has…it’s possible that Kiibo was experiencing a high level of stress which was causing him to prioritise an escape route and looking after the others instead of looking after his own health. And before you guys give me the whole ‘well Kiibo is narcissitic deal’, keep in mind that he is always searching for validation and companionship. Kiibo blurting out how awesome he is is an attempt to bond with the others and make friends…which only works if you’re a tech nerd like Miu.
Where does that leave him in the killing game?
Kiibo and Kaede, depending if you completed their free time events, are shown to have a compatible friendship with one another. The fact that she promoted togetherness while committing murder underneath their noses is also a cause for issue due to the conflict of interest. His morals state he shouldn’t feel sorry for a murderer…but Kaede was headstrong, and had a plan where the others did not. She had control. So with her gone, they lose a bit of control.
Kiibo and Ryoma. They may not have interacted much in game, but with both of them considered outsiders, they could have such a nice bond. But instead, Ryoma’s body is devoured right in front of everyone’s eyes. And Kiibo is used as a battering ram to break the tank he was in. So not only was he forced to be an object, he was also covered in bloodied water and forced to rummage through his classmate’s dead body to gather his items. It would be harrowing and traumatising for any human, but Kiibo’s okay because he’s a robot, right?
The third trial. Kiibo tried his absolute hardest to be helpful. He wants to be involved in any way he can, because the only company he truly has is Miu and his inner voice. And we all know how pesky that inner voice of his can be. So, what do the other students do? Kick him out of the seance because machines and folklore do not get along. Kiibo’s camera function was responsible for nailing the culprit in the first place; so without his and Miu’s help, they would have really struggled in that regard. But still, nobody is particularly grateful…aside from Shuichi.
Kiibo and Miu…that was always going to be the biggest hurdle Kiibo faced. I do not doubt for a second that Kiibo must have been the one to take the head gear away from Miu’s face after himself, Himiko and Maki logged out. Seeing her body in such a state and with how much pain she looked to be in must have horrified him greatly. Not only is his only friend deceased, but she appeared to have died in such a painful way…that Kiibo says ( ENG version only ) that he wished Miu gave him a crying function so he could mourn properly for her. Even now, he is cursing his lack of functionality and emotional responses, which Kokichi latches onto during the fourth investigation.
And even after they find Miu’s killer, Kiibo is not the same. He does far more risky things, such as going underneath the crusher in an attempt to check its safety function and even asks Shuichi to bash him with one of the elctrohammers in an attempt to see how Miu truly thought of him. He is in such a state from her death that he isn’t quite sure of his emotions nor how to react. No one has a plan, Kokichi has ‘kidnapped’ Kaito, and the outside world has been ‘devastated’ by something absolutely terrible. It feels absolutely hopeless at this point. Kiibo wants to do something, anything…but his inner voice reassures him to stay put.
Which is why when he finally loses that inner voice in Chapter 6…
All of his pent up emotional responses finally have an outlet.
And that outlet is the weapons he attaches to himself in order to end the Killing Game. Because god forbid…someone needs to do something. And Miu would have loved to have seen him in such awesome gear…
ME KICKING DOWN THE DOOR// LISTEN NINA. YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT UR WRITING. YOUR STYLE OF WRITING MAKES ME CRY EVERYTIME I SEE YOU IN MY ACTIVITY. EVERY WORDS FEELS SO CAREFULLY PLACED TO GIVE ME THIS WIDE VISION. WHETHER THAT BE WITH EMOTION, A CHARACTERS THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS, OR THE ACTUAL SCENE PLACEMENT. AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON YOUR PORTRATAL. YOUR SHUICHI RESONATES SO WELL WITH ME, AND THEY WAY YOU SEEM TO BE ABLE TO GET INTO HIS MIND AND WILL IS SO ON THE NOSE. (1/2)
fucking tumblr with their limited ask amount. YOU MAKE ME ACTUALLY FEEL AS IF IM READING A TRANSCRIPT OF THE GAME. your shuichi just bounces off so many characters so well. And that’s including characters that he may not get along with. he feels like a protagonist, without being a carbon copy of naegi, or a watered down hajime. Hes his own character, and you’re doing the work that kodaka is scared to. (2/2)
how’s my driving? | accepting always!
ash you are just the sweetest thing oh my gosh. that means so so much to me because i get so insecure about how i write shuichi’s dialogue –– i worry that it’s far too generic for someone as complex as him, if that makes any sense at all. still, i try to make him bounce off of other characters, since y’know…he’s the freaking PROTAGONIST! i hate that kodaka just shunts him into one squad & doesn’t let him develop meaningful relationships outside of his circle. like, if kaito of all people can develop more relationships than the goddamn protagonist, that’s just shitty writing right there.
kodaka criticism aside… i’m so happy you like how i write his inner thoughts! shuichi’s got a lot going on in that brain of his, & analyzing his thoughts & emotions is a freaking blast. i also worry that my writing style is a bit too metaphorical for someone as grounded & no-nonsense as shuichi, but the more i read my replies, the more it just…fits. i can’t imagine writing him any other way tbqh. i’m sorry if i sound like i’m tooting my own horn, but i don’t think i’ve ever felt as comfortable with my writing style as i do now.
& ash, you know how much i love your kokichi. the way you can emphasize his good intentions without sacrificing his er…gremlin tendencies is such a delight to see. i’ve heard you go on for hours about his relationships with the other characters & i can tell that you know wtf you’re doing. your writing style has improved so much since i first started interacting with you, & the way you can delve into his mind is just *chef’s kiss*. honestly, i can go on & on about how much i love your writing in general, but it’s always such a treat to see you on my dash.
but seriously though, thank you so much –– that means so, so much to me.

Shuichi was laying on the ground of the entrance hall, having suddenly ended up there. What happened again? Everyone had refused to vote, including the hacked Kiibo, and-
An execution had begun. One that was meant to kill not only Tsumugi, but the other four survivors as well. As far as Shuichi could tell, it seems to have failed. He heard footsteps heading towards him, and he forced himself to sit up. How was the school still standing? He could have sworn that Kiibo was destroying it...
Wait. Where did his hat come from? It was laying next to him, and he was a bit confused. He thought that he decided to leave it in his room a long time ago...
{❧} ---- “Maki? Himiko?”
Those were the only two he could think of at the moment. Kiibo was surely still destroying something and Tsumugi was dead. Who else could it possibly be? The detective sighed before picking up his hat and placing it on his head. It just seemed easier than carrying it around until he found somewhere to drop it. However, as he turned his head, his eyes widened as he saw the true source of the footsteps.
there were only so many places left in japan that could be considered ‘safe.’ towa city had been one of them, before that, too, had fallen. future foundation was scrambling to secure more areas so it could protect the general populace from despair, but it often felt like they were fighting a losing battle. chiaki’s job now was to travel between these settlements, carrying supplies and packages for them because the postal system no longer existed.
that was what she was in the middle of when she stopped on the outskirts of a small town in order to replace a tire. the buildings themselves were mostly crumbling, having been set ablaze some time ago. she didn’t know who did it, and she certainly hoped that the culprit was somewhere far away by now.
she sighed as she leaned back against her car. it was a nice enough day outside despite the pollution that turned the sky an eerie shade of red, but she wanted to get this done and over with. so she only paused momentarily to assess the damage before she continued with her work, not realizing that she was being watched.
The others smile was probably the most convincing part about his lies – however, Rantaro’s expression darkened as he listened to the other talk. He’d been one of the others to notice the incident, though he’d made sure to keep quiet about it until they where in a private area. He wouldn’t call the other out in front of others, especially with the warning of the : “FIRST BLOOD PERK” hanging in the air.
If someone was known to be injured, that could turn them into a TARGET. And that was part of what worried the mystery-man right now.
He may not remember many things, but what he did recall, was that he’d once been part of a large family – the eldest sibling, and? Seeing someone so small pretending to be FINE when there was no way that injury hadn’t ( A C T U A L L Y ) done something to him? “I’ve known you for a short time. I know. I know we don’t really know one another. I understand there is no way you’re entirely comfortable with us lot of strangers already.” Rantaro starts, his firm frown in place – they were alone, so he didn’t mind dropping his own s m i l e for now.
He was always SUSPICIOUS. Given he didn’t remember anything, he tried to make himself less threatening by appearing approachable. But right now – his older sibling side was taking over. Seeing the smaller male hurt had him very concerned && he desperately wanted to make sure it wasn’t something serious, or at least wanted to make sure it was treated. “But, I’m also not an idiot.” He continues, his pale eyes locking with the others dark ones – “At least let me look at the injury. I won’t mention it to anyone else, but? You need to have it looked at. If part of your lie is refusing to acknowledge it? Then fine. You don’t need to acknowledge it. But if it’s not looked at, and it’s something serious, you might end up with some serious trouble as this…” He gestures to his side – a wide breath gesture to indicate the situation they were in. “Begins getting serious. People who are seriously considering being part of this game? Will notice if you slow down.”
“ Ultimate Supreme Leader. Now how did you go about getting such a title?” Whoever’s idea it was for him to be showing this new student around, it was probably a bad one if he were to guess. Not that Komaeda was complaining. He loved the chance to get to speak to get to speak to the newest students that had joined their school. It was the chance to observe for himself, to see their hope with his own two eyes. He loved that.
Of course, he knew that Ouma more than likely wouldn’t divulge his secrets, this was only supposed to be an icebreaker, after all. It was almost certain he wouldn’t tell him a thing.
❝ WELL, if you didn’t have that mindset, maybe you wouldn’t look like a ghost, & scare MOMOTA-CHAN whenever you walk out of your dorm at night. ❞
fingers settle at his cheek, glancing at the other with a raised eyebrow. the irony was not lost on him, his own pale skin disregarded in this moment.
❝ you & me are going for a walk, no more sitting here, let’s goooo. ❞ fingers poke the other’s forehead once, twice, before plopping beside him.
@compulsivelylied x.
as your boyfriend plops beside you, you want to bring him close, curb the restless bundle of energy that coils so tightly within him. this chapter is so good hangs off of your tongue, but you know that he’d catch your lie. in truth, it’s just one of those days where your brain is rioting against you. it keeps you in shackles, chaining your arms to the book that you’re reading & your neck to the headboard of the bed.
❝ mm... ‘ you let the book fall closed. it makes an exhausted sound, like a padded door shutting, by itself, at a distance: a puff of air. how soft the oniony pages felt under your fingers, like a padded cushion under your overworked feet. part of you wants to curl into kokichi’s warmth & forget the world around you. ( though you don’t want to be a burden, that part wants to kiss your troubles into his soft neck. ) but like a drunkard rising from an uneasy night’s sleep, you have to get up somehow.
❝ ...maybe you’re right. i-i could use some fresh air. ‘ after a few moments of silence, you rise to your feet with a small sigh, hoping the action would shake off the world weighing on your shoulders. just before you reach the door, you turn back expectantly, waiting for him to join you.
