Modern au where Newt and Theseus haven't gotten along in years but they can't help but miss each other.
Newt has been traveling the globe and has made a documentary or two so whenever he misses his brother especially much, Theseus will put one of them on just to hear his brother’s voice.
His voice has changed a bit, but if he closes his eyes and tries hard enough, he can still picture his brother back when they were kids instead of hearing their last argument ringing in his head.
Maybe when Newt finally does come home it's because his cop brother has been shot during a shoot out. Theseus survived, thankfully, but the road to recovery is a long and arduous one.
Newt claims he's only home because he needs to finish editing his book, though he could have been doing anywhere in the world, which Theseus gracefully doesn't point out. If Newt spends most of his afternoons editing doing it by Theseus' bedside, well, neither of them mention it.
For this week’s video, I officially closed the book on the “Heartless” chapter of my Concept Corner series by delving into the dark powers and potential pasts of the story’s villains, the Wonders! 🖤🤍💛🧡❤️💚

Hello everyone! Billie and I (Midnight) have decided to start posting proper explanations of our thoughts behind all of the designs we have here (as spoiler-free as we can).
To start us off, we’ll be looking at Emily and Angel’s designs. You’ll even get to see some concept artwork for the pair, brought to you by Billie herself (say hello Billie. “Hello Billie.”)

(First Concept Page Versus Most Recent Artwork)
Emily didn’t change too much since her first concepts! We mostly just got better at drawing her and emphasizing her shapes haha
Billie’s Thoughts when Designing Her:
- “She needed pupils- I get there might have been an uncanny ‘be not afraid’ thing they were trying to do with her original design, but it wasn’t working.”
- “Originally this was kind of a Swap!AU, so I wanted to give her the friendly vibe of a business-hotelier without going full blown ‘I AM THE DOORMAN.’ That’s why she has so many ruffles and circles in her design, to appear small and gummy bear-esc. The bob also helps emphasize that shape.”
- Gave her facial dots/freckles to match with Angel, her sinner.
- “In terms of her actual Angel form, something I realized immediately was… Spoonily.”
✨Spot the Difference✨
- “I leaned into this, but changed the spoon to more of a teacup inspiration. When Emily was first concepted, she was fully Sera’s sister. She was the teacup to Sera’s teapot.”
- “I wanted her cooler, more desaturated colors to make her stand out and contrast against the Sinners of the group.”

Angel also hasn’t changed, but that really depends on whose artstyle you’re talking about. We’re both much more comfortable drawing him now, and he’s also been narrowed out a lot since the first time we drew him. His face is a lot thinner than before.
Billie’s Thoughts when Designing Him:
- “Angel in the show is… ugly. I’m not exaggerating, he’s supposed to be a porn star and he is just not that. He looks like he somebody bashed in his head by a brick. He’s built like a twig. There is nothing attractive about this man.”
- “So, the immediate question is: what is the beauty standard in Hell? There was a chance that the beauty standard is that ‘Everyone is Furries, so brick-head Angel is very attractive.’ According to what I knew about Viv’s Hell (at the time) was that the more humanoid you are, the less egregious your sin. So suddenly the beauty standard is How Humanoid You Are. Thus you should work backwards from there.”
- “As an Italian myself, I wanted to put some of the fun aspects of being that. Like him having curly, wavy hair that’s almost impossible to maintain.”
- “I did like some aspects from the canon one and reused those- like his mismatched eyes and ‘freckles.’ More could have been done to emphasize the spidery-ness, however, which is where the spiderbutt, mandibles, and funky legs come in.”

Yes there is a doll out there of this Angel. Yes there is also an Emily one. School projects go crazy folks.
- “I also kept him pure white because very few members of our cast sport that kind of color palette, with the exception of, say, Mimzy and Crymini. I wanted him to be stand out as one of our main characters.”
- “…bro was also supposed to be more built at first because of him being a stripper and all that, but we’ve toned that down significantly. He still has more meat on his bones than OG Angel, but it’s less so.”
- “All in all the main idea behind the design was to make him humanoid and attractive, because that’s what I imagine would actually sell to a majority of the population of Hell. Not everybody is a furry.”

There were, of course, a few more things that we’ve subtly changed to fit their ever-evolving stories better, as well as fit the Rules we have in place for Sinner Forms in PP. If you’re curious what those are, please drop us an ask!

ok so! while i was listening to The Spy And The Liar on loop, i noticed it fit a few ocs VERY well. the interweaving relationships between them, the way they parallel and bounce off of each other, the double meanings.... splendid

only me and one other person will understand this post. i really should get around to making refs for my beloved superhero/villain/playing both sides blorbos but i havent yet so.
OH ALSO one last thing. the harvester, crack shot, and mortimer belong to @throneofhavoc-blog, while the rest are mine :)

literally fits almost every pair in this. let me list the specific ideas i have for each bit
play your cards right: mortimer sitting against the wall and checking his phone or smth
kill your stage fright: angel putting on the armor and unfurling her wings
this could be you: dreamwraith looking up the heroes (reflected in their eyes), awestruck and starry-eyed
ALT:
specifically focuses on rex talking to angel and laying out his plans. would be set in his office, very calm with little movement, and done in cool/desaturated tones to contrast with the next part

in the alt version, this is harvester talking to mortimer. they’re on a battlefield, wreathed in flames, and harvy is pacing around morty with a biiig grin on his face :D
so you be the spy, and i'll be the liar
again, fits nearly everyone. which is good since its a repeated line and the title of the song. however i think it would more specifically be focused on the "liar" half—harvy, rex, gamma, and amaterasu. hell, maybe even miss prism (w crackshot being the spy).
i think this fits seeing as they all handle public opinion, or at the very least, theyre more of the face of the operation. and theyre all VERY good at playing nice and lying when they need to. also gamma and harvy are theater kids <3

thisd be where ammy makes her first appearance in this one. still fits everyone tho, and i would use it throughout the song to tie into whatever’s happening in that moment. or whatever Feels the Best
for ammy’s scene it would be her quietly talking to wraith, acting like she only wants what’s best for them and this is all necessary
highest billing makes a killing / they revere me
the first half, i think, goes best with rex and angel. since angel is LITERALLY killing people to make a killing (and for their plans but. sh)
altho i looked up what “highest billing” means and it’s apparently the most prominent actors whose names appear first. which fits very well in the song, but not with rex and angel, as they’re working in the background. maybe more like harvy and morty?
second half is definitely ammy, with how much shes basically worshipped by the people. maybe with wraith in the bg looking conflicted, or the team in general being irritated by her grandiose speeches

ammy’s part remains the same, but the first half would include rex+angel AND harvy+morty. probably goes like:
highest billing: harvy standing on top of a building, looking down at a fire in the streets below
makes a killing: rex and angel shaking hands, with rex grinning at her

oh HELL yeah this fits perfectly with harvy and ammy. he would especially despise her since she's the whole face of the system he hates, the corrosive force that's keeping everything right where it is
ALSO ALSO ALSO. "all these works of art that disguise you" is bringing up some very interesting imagery. something about the way ammy hides behind all her light shows and pretty façades
maybe like, a broken glass kind of effect? like, harvy giving ammy a death glare from across the battlefield, and she smiles smugly as the bg shatters into red
and thats it. i mean theres an outro too and stuff but im not gonna turn this into a full animatic anyways, or not rn at least, so this is fine for now. hope you enjoyed my insane ramblings! im posting this the next day but i promise you that it was written in the middle of the night
My heart stops when I’m around you, not in a romantic way but in a “you should probably go see a doctor” sort of way :/ Trying sketchier lines while portraying @abd-illustrates wonderful characters from his concept corners of Heartless. I love the story behind these characters and can’t wait to see more of it. Seeing people talk about their stories makes me so much more excited to work on my own! Keep doing what you’re doing dude, I love to see it <3
