Classic redone: Springsteen rolls out rewritten 'Born in the U.S.A.' for vets tribute

Veterans were shown major love Tuesday in a three-hour celebration, Concert for Valor, an HBO special featuring the biggest names in music, television and film. Bruce Springsteen didn't get the loudest applause Tuesday night, but it would be tough to argue that he didn't touch the most hearts during his set. His rites of passage stories resonated even more than usual during the Veterans Day celebration, and this was especially the case for "Born in the U.S.A.," his classic that celebrated its 30th anniversary last month. Springsteen transformed the song from a massive top 10 pop hit to a bluesy, acoustic narrative fit for a campfire session.

The moving lyrics about a troubled man being sent off to war only to return home worse off were more poignant than ever; like a brand new song.
