Once seated, Val rounded around the stranger and towards the front window of her home. She pushed the curtain just ever so slightly out of the way so she could peer outside; There weren’t any flashlights or lanterns waving about, as they would certainly be if word spread that there was an outsider in their midst. Harboring him here at all could mean so much devastation for Val and her position within The Testament but it didn’t feel right to her to simply throw him to the wolves. With Papa Knoth’s ever declining sanity, she could not promise his safety.  “I don’t know how you found this place, or what you could possibly want from it, but you can’t be here,”  she finally spoke once she felt safe enough to do so. It was a quiet time, but audible, and she returned to stand on the other side of the table that she had gestured him to.  “People like you aren’t allowed in.”

       Humans, the creature feels, are odd. And Henry is by no means an exception. Frankly, he might be an excellent example — especially given his achievement in befriending a predator that had initially attempted to eat him, somehow managed amidst a much greater crisis. But that’s neither here nor there at the moment.

       No, what prompts the judgement this time is the pacing.

       The beast watches from where it lingers at the bedroom door. It doesn’t understand the point of the action at all, but his body language and its own senses declare the man to be in some form of distress. But why? There’s no danger. Henry doesn’t appear injured, nor does he seem ill. It had accidentally frightened him upon arrival, yes, but had it truly shaken him so badly?

       Temptation to Reach is suppressed. The creature is uncertain if the mental intrusion would be received at all well in this state.

        It issues instead a soft, concerned whine.

A grimace. “How long has it been since you applied the dressing?” In a disgusting, rust and blood infested hallway where the walls pulsed in time with their hearts. Kaede's gaze fell upon the leaking bandage. It was an actual bandage, right? He didn't just make it from curtains and apply those gross things to an open wound, did he? A fully intact medical kit would work wonders on him right now. A first-aid kit with gauze, some bandages, maybe a little bottle of cleansing alcohol. Hidden in the most peculiar of places, the women's bathroom. In the fucking toilet tank.

She could let sleeping hell dogs lie and tell him they needed to move on. They'd probably find another misplaced medical kit somewhere. She didn't need to use that one. They'd find another and she could fix him up then. Besides, Kaede was a doctor, she'd be able to tell if he were feeling more poorly. If he broke into an unusual sweat whilst traipsing through the sewers and hallways. If he felt the slightest bit dizzy or short of breath whilst fighting for his life.

As quiet as Henry was, he would probably tell her if something was going wrong with his body.

"... There's a first aid kit in the women's bathroom. I'll redress it for you." Already rolling her sleeves up. No running water, no soap, no sanitiser, no gloves. The best she could do is wipe her hands on the inside of her sweater before touching him. "I know where it is but you'll either have to come with me or wait here for me to get back here with the kit."

“The air here tastes like blood...” It sounded so cryptic aloud, but how else does she get the only other person here to notice her? She has to SAY something before he vanishes along with the rest of them. Like everyone else.

“Don’t go.” Darkness was thick, the metallic scent thicker, Susie has been holding back the urge to retch . . . Maybe he’d make a good distraction. Maybe he’d live longer than the others. She only has to hold back that lust for blood a small while longer. Make the whispers from It be quiet long enough for a little human contact. Human. Something she hasn’t felt in time. Time that she can’t exactly comprehend. Either it was ages or it was hours.

Pretty blue eyes catch the stranger’s gaze, she’d reach out but she’s afraid to. Afraid her control will waver. “I’m . . . I’m sorry, I’m Susie. It’s been a long time, I think, since I’ve seen someone here.”
