Microsoft launches original Xbox "backward compatability" for PC
As the folks at Microsoft try to right the ship known as Xbox, they're hoping that you're interested in some nostalgia for their original console
"Rolling out today, XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC launches in early release, starting with four classic original XBOX games, now playable on PC and handhelds for the first time ever," a press release says.
Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Fuzion Frenzy, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Conker: Live and Reloaded are now available within the Xbox PC app for purchase or for use through Game Pass. If you already owned these titles digitally on an Xbox console, you can also use them now on your current devices.
"We plan to add even more features to XBOX Backward Compatibility games in the future," says Jason Ronald, VP of Xbox's "Next Generation" division. "I’m excited to share that later this year we will be bringing one of the top fan-requested features to select original XBOX games on both console and PC: Achievements. The first four games releasing in preview today will be updated to include Achievements in the coming months."
Some would argue that "true" backward compatability would mean also supporting the physical versions of each title, but hey, it's better than nothing... especially considering the future of the industry.
