THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY || Conrad and Belly in 3.05 "Last Dance" That night, that was the last time we were ever together like that. What if I hadn't fucked it up four years ago? What if I hadn't pushed her away like I always do?
Conrad Fisher was deeply unserious that entire episode because everyone kept being like "what did you think? She was going to call off her wedding *to your brother* and run away with you"? and his response was always "I mean, yes, hopefully"?
Belly + Not Knowing Conrad's Feelings
S2E6 // S3E7
(or alternatively, Belly and Conrad traumatizing that poor beach every damn season)
*** SPOILERS ***
My unpopular opinions (TSITP Series):
Conrad, Laural and John are THEE only people in the show who really deserve to call out Isabel. Taylor, although speaking straight FACTS this latest episode, had spent this entire show dismissing Conrad and borderline-forcing Isabel to be with Jeremiah.
The whole "Taylor only hates Conrad due to only hearing Isabel's POV" is comically stupid. Like in the first season, it's shown that, throughout her childhood, Isabel had always loved Conrad and put him on a pedestal. Like sure, she most likely complained about how (in her mind) Conrad only saw her as a little sister, and how he was being hot-and cold (which was true, but only in season 1 and maybe season 2), but I doubt it was to the point where Taylor would logistically see Conrad as the villian and push Isabel to be with Jeremiah, whom Belly (at least in the first half of the first season) only saw him as a friend. Taylor, for the most part, clearly only hated Conrad due to seeing a lot of herself in him.
Isabel is still a good person. She's just a young adult girl who had lost herself in a 4-year, toxic, codependent relationship, while in her formative years, which was built on grief, great loss, heartbreak, insecurities, trauma-bonding and lust. She is emotionally unstable, deeply delusional, mentally biased, completely traumatized, needs intensive therapy, time to be on her own, put her self-worth first, focus on her passions, build an identity outside of Susannah, Conrad, Jeremiah, The Beach House and Cousins as a whole.
Isabel was never the problem, Adam was. She didn't ruin the relationship between Conrad and Jeremiah because Adam had been poisoning it from the start. Isabel was simply a young girl who took up both brothers' clearly intentional offers for a romantic relationship. Which I, too would've done because, LOOK AT THEM!
Conrad had a smaller, yet still significant, part in the reason for his and Isabel's first breakup. Not because he forced her to break up with him, imo, that's straight up rubbish, but it's how he kept pushing her away near the end of their relationship. Now he did those things for valid reasons (Sussanah was DYING, he was in college, Jeremiah was being an understandablly upset, but inexcusably cruel, jerkface, and he was crublimg over his perfectionism and hero complex), but, imo, your decisions can be completely valid AND still be bad.
The only reason Conrad is "better" than Jeremiah and "deserves better" than Isabel is only due to him going to therapy, unpacking and processing his trauma and grief, spending time on his own, and just growing into his own person. Conrad is just as complex as Jeremiah and Belly, he was just able to do the work.
Conrad Fisher is Peeta Mellark. Isabel Conklin-Park is Katniss Everdeen. Jeremiah Fisher is Gale Hawthorne.
Isabel does experience the consequences of her own actions. She usually doesn't recognize it until she thinks it's too late, double down on her self-hatred, and cause her to make stupid decisions.
Isabel, Conrad, and Jeremiah (in that specific order) get too much hate and slander and not enough compassion and empathy.
Jeremiah has been acting as an immature, jealous, manipulative, and hypocritical jerkface since season 1. That being said, he still has potential for redemption, he just needs to cut off his dad, go to therapy, and figure out what HE truly wants outside of Adam and Conrad.
The writers should have chosen between Isabel being intimate with both Conrad and Jeremiah, or there being a four-year time-jump since season 2. Having both in the show was really messy for no reason. Personally, I would've preferred no sex and keeping the 4-year time-jump.
Like with Gale Hawthorne, ever since starting the show, I have had a love/hate relationship with Jeremiah.
The hate Conrad and Isabel have gotten, legit reminds me of the hate Peeta and Katniss had gotten. The same goes for Gale and Jeremiah (although I feel they deserved a little bit of it).
Criticizing a characters negative actions and the writers shortcomings ≠ demonizing the characters and calling the overall writing of the show absolute trash.
Truly being Team Bonrad means being Team Conrad and Team Belly. Truly being Team Conrad means being Team Belly and Team Bonrad. Truly being Team Belly means being Team Conrad and Team Bonrad. There interconnected. You cannot be pro-one and anti-the other. You cannot support one without supporting the others.
(P.S. should I make a part 2? 🤔)
Does anyone have gifs of Belly and Conrad's prom fight in the rain?
Conrad Fisher: admitting he loves Belly to everyone in 3.08 “Last Kiss.”
