and we keep on paying those freaks on the TV
who claim they will save us but want to enslave us
and sweating like demons they scream through our speakers
but we leave the sound on 'cause silence is harder
and no one's the killer and no one's the martyr
the world that has made us can no longer contain us
and prophets are silent, then rotting away
I’m editing tomorrow’s chapter of Consequence of Sounds and like…
Do y’all ever feel guilty for what you put your characters through? I mean, I know I marked it with Peter Parker Whump on day one, but I don’t think even I knew how much I meant it.
Anyway what I’m saying is that I hope you guys are ready for tomorrow, whoops. 🙃🙃
Just a general heads up for my Consequence of Sounds readers! I’ve decided NOT to post a chapter this weekend, as I know the hype from No Way Home will be taking over your feeds (and probably the entirety of Ao3, let’s be honest). Apologies, as I know I have lots of folks looking forward for the next one, but any fics I post over the next week will be very purposely not MCU 😂
So enjoy the movie, enjoy the chaos, and I’ll see you NEXT Saturday!
Will Consequence of Sound ever have a sequel? I have reread that fic so much, I might even reread I again soon!! I am in dire need of Peter getting used to high school, trying to blend in, making friends in Ned and MJ, getting a bully, dealing with teachers, and homework... etc... doesn't even have to have a plot. I would love itttttt!! AAAAAAAAAA!!!
Aaaahhhhhhh!! Thank you so much, first off. I’m really glad you enjoy it!! It is near and dear to my heart for sure. I know at the time I talked about a sequel, and I do actually have a one shot and a sequel of sorts casually outlined, but I’m not sure when I will write it.
I’ve taken a small step back from the Spidey fandom, aside from the crossover side of things, just because I got a bit overwhelmed by the variety of very loud opinions. That said, it’s certainly not out of the question to continue it someday!

It...is finished. The epilogue is up, my friends, and I have so many emotions running through me. The chapter is short and sweet, so I won’t be posting an excerpt here, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Thank you all for sticking around and seeing this through to the end with me!

Chapter 33 of Consequence of Sounds has been posted, aka the final chapter (sans epilogue). I’m just kind of having a moment now so I’m going to go curl up in the corner while you all enjoy the chapter. 🥲🥲
Thank you all for being so amazing throughout this silly creation of mine. You’re a gift!
“Had a feeling I’d find you out here,” Tony says lightly as he takes a seat beside him on the bench.
Peter manages half a smile. “Did FRIDAY give me away?”
He hums noncommittally. “Said you left your floor. I assumed you’d be up here though.”
Peter shrugs after a moment before turning his eyes back to the city. He can’t pretend he’s surprised. Tony has already figured out a lot of his quirks and habits, and, all things considered, the roof really does make sense for him.
He can feel Tony watching him, looking for a tell or some hint as to what he’s thinking. He can’t believe that only a little over a month ago, he was almost unreadable and now, to Tony and Bucky and Natasha in particular, he’s practically an open book. Right now though, Peter is fairly certain his body language is screaming too many things for him to make an accurate guess.
Eventually Tony sighs and follows his gaze towards the skyline. “You wanna tell me what’s on your mind, kiddo?”
It’s a simple question, and not one that Peter has really shied away from with Tony before. He even knows the answer.
Spider-Man. When does he get to come back, when does he get to go out there again, when does Peter get to be one of the good guys again–
Instead of saying that though, Peter ends up shrugging again and leaning forward to rest his elbows against his knees, muttering, “I don’t know.”
A frown tugs at Tony as he follows suit, mirroring Peter’s position. “No? You don’t know why you’re awake at two in the morning, staring at the city?”
Tony doesn’t buy it. Of course he doesn’t. His tone of voice has Peter huffing under his breath. Like he already said, easy to read. He hates it. “It’s nothing. I just couldn’t sleep, and it’s…clearer up here.”
Tony purses his lips and reads between the lines. “Which part? Your thoughts in general, or what you want to do next?” There’s a flinch as Tony hits the root of the problem. Tony raises a brow at the visceral response and gives him a look, urging him along. “I take it you already know the answer to that one, though. You know, Bucky thought you were going to need a push, he was worried y–”
“I need Spider-Man, Mr. Stark.” Peter cuts him off without looking at him, and Tony would swear that his cheeks are turning pink. “I know I only got to be him for a few days, but I think he’s been a part of me for a lot longer.”
A laugh slips from Tony, a quiet breath of a thing that makes him smirk. He knows how Peter feels, of course. It’s how he’s felt about Iron Man from the first time he put on that haphazard suit in the middle of the desert - Iron Man is a part of him in the same way that Tony Stark, genius billionaire philanthropist and former playboy, is, and he couldn’t imagine trying to hang one of them up.
He doesn’t need to explain all of that to Peter though so all he ends up saying is, “I know, kid.”
Peter nods and lets out the breath he was holding, slow and thin. “I want to go out again. They’re gone, Mr. Stark, and I finally feel like I can breathe again and I just want to go and-and do something. Be something.”
Tony’s smile softens. “You already are something, Pete. You don’t have to be a hero to do that.” He holds up a hand when Peter looks like he’s going to protest. “But I do know what you mean. I get it, wanting to put the suit back on and get back to work. You’ve got a good heart, and Spider-Man makes a damn good member of the Avengers.”
The initial fight leaves Peter in an instant. He knows what Tony means, he knows he doesn’t have to be Spider-Man to make a difference, but he does in order to make the difference he wants to. He can’t protect people as Peter Parker in the way he does as Spider-Man. That said, hearing that Tony actually believes in Spider-Man too eases something in his heart.
But…
He relaxes back against the bench with pursed lips. “HYDRA used me as their pawn for so long, and I… I don’t think I can do that again. Not-” He seems to catch himself, turning to Tony with wide eyes. “I don’t mean to say that you guys would be using me like that! I just mean… I think I need to focus on the smaller stuff. Helping out with the things in reach. I can’t help the whole world, but I can help this team, you know? This family, this…this city. I can do that.”
