Since the library of works has grown, I thought it'd be a neat project to make cheesy book covers/film posters for them. Not quite done yet but when I am, I’ll sort by major series, then by type and chronological order! ☺️
The brilliant @noeldressari came up with the idea of an Astral Prism™️ cover of Down by the River (instrumental ofc 😭) and I decided to give it the ol’ college try!
I was going for a slower, heavier/dark(ish) acoustic cover BUT I couldn’t pick a lane to stay in. Pls pick for me 🥹
(The real difference comes in at the time stamps I put under each one)
In honor of Valentine's Day, here are my fave (semi) spicy modern au/Consonance shots, and an excerpt of a one shot (coming tomorrow!)
Valentine's Day oneshot excerpt below:
The idea of stealing away from work for a time, showering Jen in romantic gifts and gestures until she cannot stop smiling, possesses her.
In truth, the idea came across Serena’s mind as early as December; she hasn’t ever had a relationship that’s caused her to look so far ahead, but Jen has changed that, too. Of course, Serena held her tongue on the matter until January, for fear of seeming entirely desperate and putting Jen off completely.
Serena carefully crafted her approach; a simple, off-handed remark about the holiday, to test the waters of Jen’s interests regarding gifts. Jen can be notoriously difficult to shop for; she has her own refined tastes when it comes to clothing, instruments, anything that Serena can think to gift her, besides flowers and the occasional bottle of wine.
Jen’s response was…less than encouraging, to say the least.
“What a farce. A capitalistic attempt at a “holiday”, wrapped in cheap chocolate, awkwardly forced dinners, and bad decisions.”
Serena can still hear the scathing review of the holiday in her girlfriend’s irritable tone.
In truth, Serena hadn’t the courage, then, to ask why Jen thought that way- and she still hasn’t found the necessary bravery to ask.
Serena adores Jen- that much, she wagers, will never change- but Jen carries such a capacity for her particular brand of jaded bitterness. Serena knows better than to judge her; she herself carries no love for the ever-popular winter holidays due to her own past.
Still, it’s a little disheartening to know that her girlfriend has no interest in celebrating the one holiday made for love, something they both have been missing severely in their lives, until meeting.
So Serena buries herself in the extra shifts she picks up at the bar, while Jen spends the frigid month of January entirely occupied with contract negotiations for their upcoming tour.
It’s easy enough, and Serena enjoys the company of Isobel as she flits about the bar, busy overseeing renovations that have been long overdue to the aging establishment.
On days like today, the bar sits empty, save for the handful of locals that come exclusively to have a hot meal and a drink undisturbed.
It’s peaceful, in the sense that their patrons are regulars and very quiet, to boot. Isobel is by far the loudest person in the room, as she titters on about Aylin’s inability to keep a surprise from her.
They’re going skiing, for Valentine’s day.
Because of course they are.
Serena can just see it now; Aylin gliding down the side of a steep, icy mountain on her skis, carrying Isobel with one arm while she curls a dumbbell with the other. She snorts a laugh of amusement at her own mental idiocy and draws Isobel’s attention from where she struggles to place a glass into an overhead rack.
“Tav, are you even listening?” Isobel scowls as Serena plucks the glass out of her hand delicately, reaching up to slide it into the rack with ease. “You’ve had a faraway look in your eyes all day. And not the dazy kind you get when Jen sends you pics. The sad kind.”
Serena quirks a brow at Isobel.
Isobel merely shrugs. “You think she doesn’t tell me?” She leans back against the counter triumphantly, folding her arms as she studies Serena. “What’s wrong with you two?”
Serena shakes her head. “Nothing. Why is that your first assumption?”
Isobel pats her on the shoulder knowingly. “You get a very distinct expression…in your face, your eyes…whenever it’s to do with Jen.” Isobel chuckles softly.
Serena’s cheeks go red slightly. It’s good to know her face and eyes are broadcasting her inner musings for the entire world to see, apparently.
“So, let’s try this again.” Isobel tuts. “What did she do?” She lifts a brow curiously, and Serena can see the mirthful twinkle in her gaze. Isobel is nothing if not persistent, when it comes to her best friend.
“Nothing.” Serena assures. “She hasn’t done anything to upset me.”
Isobel looks thoughtful for a moment, eyes studying Serena’s very soul with just a glance. “...Is it work?” She muses. “Too much Shadowheart, not enough Jen for you, lately?”
Serena shakes her head. “I’m happy the band has work.” she points out. “...And I love seeing her go to work.” She adds with a soft smile of awe.
It’s true; Serena often marvels at her girlfriend’s work ethic. Jen works hard for everything she has; Serena has never taken issue with her ambition.
“...Then what?” Isobel presses, brow furrowing. Her scowl is much softer than Jen’s, and it almost makes Serena laugh, how similar yet different the two best friends can be. “...Is it a bedroom thi-”
“-no.” Serena adds, perhaps a little too quickly, tugging at her collar. “...Definitely not.”
Isobel smirks at Serena’s sense of propriety. “Well, that’s good to know. I figured Jen would have told me if there was an issue…”
“There’s no issue.” Serena hastens to correct her. “Only…it’s funny, I guess. I…brought up Valentine’s day, and-”
“Oh.” Isobel’s mouth holds the shape in utter surprise for a moment, her eyes widening, and then she seems to have a mighty realization. “Oh, that explains it.”
I feel like when Isobel and Aylin find out that Serena punched Shar they will lowkey be proud of her
Oh lol I think they’re high key proud of her! They already know her character and know she’s not a violent individual so pretty much all of Serena’s fears are unfounded 🤗 they might be a little worried for possible retaliation, but hell yeah they’re proud! She did what everyone wanted to do from day one.
Isobel is the first person Jen calls afterwards (bff privileges) and while she acts solemn (it’s a heavy situation) she’s probably so so happy inwardly that Jen has someone who’d do that for her. Everyone in Reithwin is kinda scared of Shar & the Thorms respectively; Tav’s newbie status sort of exempts her from the lore and gives her agency.
And ofc Jen herself is proud!! (and aroused lmao). Really, the only person bothered by this is Serena (and Shar bc…her nose (and pride) is broken ❤️)
Also I just realized any impending legal battles could be referred to as "Trials of Shar" 😭
I saw this tweet where somebody was getting married and his fiancée texted him the night before they got married and said “are we still on for tomorrow?” and that is some shit Serena would do💀
😭💀 she SO would lmao.
There truly is a part of her that cannot believe she landed Jen. For life. She’s expecting a “gotcha!” moment while Jen is rehearsing the smouldering look that’s going to accompany her vows in the mirror and writing “Mrs. Jen Hallowleaf-Tavyndír 🖤” prematurely on all her documents lol
But lbr I don’t think they can stay separated the night before the wedding lmao. Serena probably asks her in person 😅
