As The Constella Festival enters its four year, we’re continuing to evolve and adapt, with new approaches to programs and more digital projects.
But our core mission remains the same “to enrich local audiences by introducing them, in intimate venues to performers, artists and music of which some may not have been previously aware."
So it was appropriate that last year audiences totaling 4,000 at 20 events and 15 venues saw several world premieres and a diverse array of musicians and artists from our community and around the world.
Times, tastes and the way information is delivered keeps changing – so while our core mission remains the same, Constella will be focusing on these areas as well:
Thinking big!: In the past few years, Constella has grown faster than we ever could have anticipated. With your help, we have presented renowned musicians and artists from around the world, sold out concert halls, and featured over 50 Cincinnati and world premieres ranging from jazz to dance, and chamber music to digital art.
The overwhelming support from you and our artists has given us the confidence to start thinking bigger. How do we harness our growth and make our mark on a national level? What can we do to connect more people with experiences that can change their lives? The arts and culture organizations that are thriving in today’s fast-paced, digitally driven society realize the value of relevant, contemporary online content.
Digital: Constella is branching out connect a broader audience with the music we love, by creating and distributing high quality digital content. While there’s no question that younger audiences are difficult to attract to live events (in the 1930’s the average age at orchestra concerts was in the high-20s, now it’s in the 50s) they will engage if offered high quality, interesting music on digital platforms.
Children’s programming and enrichment: Schools are cutting back programs, but experiencing the world of arts and music is important for children. Constella continues to bring enrichment programs to schools and community centers in Greater Cincinnati.
So it’s appropriate that a program for “children of all ages” will be featured at our up October 15th-17th performance showcase, in which the Constella April 2015 festival lineup will be announced.
