This week @ the #LCAKidsStudio 🖌👦🏻👧🏻 @laredocenterforthearts 🎨 the children explored the beautiful world of color of Helen Frankenthaler. We learned about the soak-stain painting technique she pioneered & created colorful abstract portraits inspired by this technique. The children had fun experimenting w/ changing the consistency of the paint and using alternative methods of applying paint to the canvas which allowed room for spontaneity. #HelenFrankenthaler #ContemporaryArtForKids #ArtHistoryForKids #STEAMEducationThroughArt The LCA Kids Studio is a place for children to learn about art history in a dynamic gallery/studio setting. Every week the children learn about a new artist and work in different mediums. The children learn biographical information about each artist and explore each artist’s styles & techniques they in turn apply and use in their own work. The LCA Kids Studio is located at Laredo Center for the Arts, 500 San Agustin Ave. Classes take place every Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 PM All supplies & materials are provided including a light snack. This week @ the LCA Kids Studio we learned about the Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. 🇯🇵 The students were encouraged to paint a self-portrait expressing a feeling or emotion, whether it be happiness, sadness or anger. I loved this portrait because for a first time art student he was able to beautifully capture & express complex emotions & the feeling of loss over the death of his abuelita 👵🏼 I love the way art can help us all process feelings no matter what age. Next week @ the LCA Kids Studio we will be celebrating & honoring the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing @nasa 🇺🇸🌕 w/ a Moon Party 🌙🎉 The children will study the moon🌜 as a motif throughout art history & paint their own portraits 🌝 It will be truly out of this world #LCAKidsStudio #YoshitomoNara #ArtHistoryForKids 🎨📜#ContemporaryArtForKids 🖼#STEAMEducationThroughArt 👨🏻‍🚀💥🚀🌎🌌 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz32nUUl_j_/?igshid=1xvfo7aqywgk9
