Between Dog and Wolf
Chinese visual artist Chen Zhe explores a dread of night
I am about as comfortable in the evening/night as a fly is comfortable on a spider’s web. Having spent my entire life in the confines of a city with apparently vibrant nightlife has never made me feel any more familiar with it; in fact, it probably heightened my anxiety towards the night. It does not disappear with work or with play -- as long as I am aware that the sun has set on this side of the Earth, I am twitchy with the aura of evening; she is selective with those she blesses, and she hides what is known and what belongs to the sun under her dark cloak. But it’s nice to know that someone else feels the same way too.
