Control points for the allocation of photosynthate (Figure 11.22) include the distribution of triose phosphates to the following processes:
Regeneration of intermediates in the C3 photosynthetic carbon reduction cycle (the Calvin-Benson cycle)
Starch synthesis
Sucrose synthesis, as well as distribution of sucrose between transport and temporary storage pools
The key enzymes involved in the regulation of sucrose synthesis in the cytosol and of starch synthesis in the chloroplast are sucrose phosphate synthase and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase in the cytosol and ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase in the chloroplast (see Figure 11.22).
