Still trying to figure it out...
This whole convfefe thing started as a typo (granted, it’s a HECK of a typo).
But what it shows me is that a lot of us are looking for any absurdist escape that we can find from the reality that Donald Trump is actually the President of the United States, has pulled out of the Paris climate change treaty, bragged about assaulting women, and also pretends that we’re all just mean for saying bad things about him after Trump spent eight years trying to discredit Barack Obama.
We’re scared shitless, and we need to find things to laugh about to keep us from getting lost in the bottomless pit of despair on which we are on the precipice.
As always, mad props to Merriam-Webster for being the dictionary that (most of us) love:
lol trump wat is u doin
Covfefe’: Donald Trump spawns a new word with an apparently unfinished tweet. Happy #convfefe #covfefe Wednesday. #ppjeweley #pearlperrijewelry #lifeisart #lifeisplay #lifeislove #lifeismusic #powertoart
A comment I started to type on Facebook (on the post of someone I do not know, but who was mad about the Kathy Griffin thing which I will not post photos of), but decided I didn’t want to start a comment war, so I’ll put it here instead:
Yes, I HAVE seen this type of behavior before. It was awful when directed at Obama, and it was awful when directed at Trump.
But to watch the right wing complain about the left wing treating Trump the way THEY treated Obama for eight years, after just over 100 days...it's laughable.
Again, I'm not saying the treatment is right. But we have Fox News on at work and I see all their headlines (full disclosure: sans audio, but with closed captioning and while I don’t have the time to stop and read it, I get the gist of what they’re saying) that decry the current media treatment of Trump...all I can do is laugh, because they're complaining about people treating Trump the way THEY treated Obama for eight years.
Yes, the violent imagery is too far. Again, both when it was directed at Obama and when it's directed at Trump.
And I'm GLAD that Kathy got fired from her CNN gig over this. That was the correct response by CNN. Most who did this to Obama's visage didn't get fired, but they are also not such public figures (although I would not have complained if they HAD been fired because...if your go-to response to disagreement is violence, you're just too violent of a person for my tastes and I’d rather not do business with you).
I do hope Trump gets impeached; but I'm realistic enough to know how unlikely that is. I do wish Trump a long life of reflecting on how the things he has done and said reflect upon the rest of our nation -- if Donald Trump is even capable of self-reflection, even in that context.
I also wish him a long life of reflecting on what it’s like to be questioned, instead of surrounded by people who agree with you just because they’re afraid to get fired for speaking their minds. Welcome to being the leader of a nation with freedom of speech.
One thing I do not wish him is a violent end. I want him to live for a long time. Even the vindictive part of me says that, just so he can see the damage that he has done. But the more peaceful side of me wants him to live long just so he's not lumped in with JFK, Martin Luther King, Jr, or Abraham Lincoln, or anyone else who was killed for their desire to include people that American people were not yet ready to include in our society (even though they were already here, and helped BUILD our society).
If the left wants to change things, maybe they should actually try showing up on election day. I did. The best candidate wasn’t someone I supported 100%, but I knew that she would have been a better choice than the egotistical jerk we have now, but I knew (and still believe) that she would have been a better leader. Hillary Clinton would have continued some things that I didn’t like about Obama (I loved Obama, be we didn’t always see eye to eye), but I’d take that over the shit-show we have now any day. I just don’t know how much hope there is when so many people buy Trump’s every lie. Even his press secretary, Sean Spicer, said that “convfefe” was a word that only Trump and people close to him understood (I understood it as a really bad typo of “coverage” as Trump probably fell asleep while tweeting, but now that it’s been defended as a real word I have even less faith in Trump and Spicer than I did before, and that’s saying A LOT). And I would be willing to bet that there are quite a few Trump supporters out there who honestly think it’s a real word now, just because Trump’s White House said so.
I’m scared for our future, y’all. And I don’t see it getting better any time soon.
Climate Control Convfefe by therealshawnshawn On June 1, 2017 President Trump took the US out of the Paris Accord that was a worldwide treaty in reducing CO2 and other climate change gas production. One day later he dropped the "convfefe" tweet that riled up the twitter universe. Its a climate control convfefe. In one stroke, he undid one of the key accomplishments of the Obama administration.
