Workshop Wednesday - 9.25
Gah. I'm incompetent at life apparently. Kuma here, late, no excuses other than forgetfulness and no computer on Monday. But I want to follow the form, so four Thursday posts it is!
Community - Part 3/4
So we are going to APE. I'm stoked. I'm genuinely amped up three weeks before we are going. Honestly I've been amped since I found out we got a space. Super happy.
We got a banner! It's horizontal and we didn't get a stand. I didn't let that stop me though - instead I got creative and sketched out some PVC designs to make our own.
Stands are typically designed for vertical banners and they are super duper expensive. That's silly. I like DIY, PVC is cheap as hell, and I can't do that much worse right? (Don't Answer that!)
The design is simple. Cross piece base made out of four capped pieces of 3'PVC lengths tucked into a cross piece (4 openings, like a +). One of those pieces goes into a "T" shaped triangular piece and a short cut (4" or so) will connect the "T" and the cross. Another length heads up to a cross piece, and another leads to a "T cap piece from the top of the cross.
Extending from the central and cap pieces will be two 3' lengths capped with a 90 degree bend. That will connect, flushly, with another 90 degree bend at each end with a six foot connecting piece tying it all together.
To visualize: think of a long, skinny oval, with a line connecting it to another oval the same size but 2'6" down.
We'll attach the banner to the top and bottom 6' lengths and voila! It should stand perfectly. I'll weight the bottom cross legs with something heavy (backpack probably) in the back to give it some solid ground. I might eventually make a better bottom frame, but not now. I'm going el cheapo for the nonce because I want to impress you with our games, not our banner stands!
Come to APE and check us out! We can talk DIY woodwork and PVC work in between boss fights and Sportsball matches!
