Going to town was a good idea, but he was certain that if he went alone, others would bother him to no end. What he had found was that having one person with him was a good way to deter most others. However, that also meant he needed to find someone he didn’t object to completely. Silver was the perfect person for the day and the moment he found the slave, his hand closed around the other’s wrist. “You’re going to town with me.”

The guard was actually grateful to have a slow day. So far, the slaves had been behaving and that made his life distinctly easier. Whatever happened, he could handle, but no one enjoyed being constantly busy. There had to be some breaks. On top of that, he had been up much too late trying to finish a book and was in no mood to deal with disobedience. Anyone who so much as thought about stepping out of line was going to meet a rather pissed off wendigo. Seeing one of the slaves out of the cells was enough to make him scowl. “What are you doing outside?” he huffed. There had better be at least a decent explanation from the- oh, he remembered this one. The slave could cook.
